Funeral services for Jake Baartman, 59, Rock Valley farmer who died of a heart attack April 10, were held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Porter funeral home In Rock Valley and at 1:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed church, Rock Valley. Rev. John Byker officiated and burial was in the Valley View cemetery. Mr. Baartman was stricken while operating his tractor on land he was farming near his own farm. His body was discovered by a son Wednesday night.
He was born June 11, 1903, near Orange City, Iowa, and married Bertha Van Maanen January 29 1925, at Rock Valley. He had farmed at Rock Valley ever since.
Survivors include the widow, five sons, Gerald, Wiliis, Bernard and Roger, all of Sioux Falls, and Lawrence of Rock Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Vander Plas of Hawardcn, Iowa, and Miss Betty Jane Baartman of Rock Valley; seven grandchildren; six brothers, and three sisters.

Bertha Baartman, 81, of Rock Valley died Sunday, December 14, 1986, in a hospital in Rock Valley. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, in the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Rev. Fred Gunnink officiated. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery under direction of Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Mrs. Baartman, the former Bertha Van Maanen, was born December 17, 1904, in Rock Valley. She married Jake Baartman January 29, 1925, in Rock Valley. The couple farmed in the Rock Valley area until his death April 10, 1963. She moved into Rock Valley in 1965. Mrs. Baartman was a member of Martha Circle of the First Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include four sons, Gerald and Willis, both of Sioux Falls, SD, Roger of Saugus, CA, and Lawrence of Rock Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Theresa) Vander Plas of Hawarden and Mrs. William (Betty Jane) Vis of Gallatin Gateway, MT; 28 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.

Lawrence Baartman, age 60, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at Hegg Memorial Hospital, Rock Valley. Funeral services were 1:30 p.m., Thursday the 25th at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Reverend Dan DeGroot officiated. Interment was at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.
Lawrence Allen Baartman was born June 19, 1943, to Jake and Bertha (Van Maanen) in Rock Valley. He was united in marriage to Wanda De Leeuw on January 11, 1965, in Boyden, IA. Lawrence farmed southwest of Rock Valley. He was a member of the Sioux County Extension Board, Sioux County Cattle Feeders, and Rock Valley Christian School Board. Lawrence was an Elder and Deacon at First Christian Reformed Church.
He enjoyed collecting 1/16" tractors, working on his Allis Chalmers "WC," his family, and especially, his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda; sons: Mike (Tammy) of Rock Valley and Terry (Brenda) of Le Mars, IA; daughter, Janelle Baartman of Rock Valley; 5 grandchildren: Kim, Leah, Joel; Caleb, and Dillan Baartman; brothers: Gerald of Sioux Falls and Roger of Canyon Country, C A; sisters: Teresa (Ken) Vander Plas of Hawarden and Betty (Rev. Bill) Vis of Colton, SD.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Bernard, John, Herbert, and Willis; sisters-in-law: Til and Jan Baartman.
