Obituaries of Simon and Annie

Simon T.H. Kooima, 72, Rock Valley, died Monday at a Rock Valley filling station after an apparent heart attack. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. The Rev. Paul Bakker will officiate. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery under direction of the Porter Funeral Home.

Mr. Kooima was born Feb. 22, 1905, in Rock Valley. He married Annie Van Maanen April 24, 1925, in-Rock Valley. They farmed in the Rock Valley area for some years.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Thomas and Gerrit, both of Rock Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Elfiena) Driesen of Marcus and Mrs. Jim (Janet) Van Bochove of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 18 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

Annie Kooima, 75, of Rock Valley died Friday morning at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday in First Christian Reformed Church at Rock Valley The Rev. Roger Bultman officiated. Burial was at the Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley. Visitation was held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Porter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kooima, the former Annie Van Maanen, was born on July 28, 1907, at rural Rock Valley, she married Simon T.H. Kooima in Rock Valley on April 24, 1925. They farmed in the Rock Valley area. He died on Jan. 23, 1978. She moved to the Rock Valley nursing home in 1982.

Survivors include two sons, Gerrit and Tom, both of rural Rock Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Elsiena) Driesen of Marcus and Mrs. Jim (Janet) Van Bochove of Plattsmouth, Neb,; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Baartman of Rock Valley; 19 grand-children 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.

Gerrit John Kooima, 54, was found dead Thursday, September 21, near his farm in Rock Valley. Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 28, at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Mike Hamersveld officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.

Kooima was born November 19, 1945, in Le Mars, son of Simon Th and Annie (Van Maanen) Kooima. He attended Rock Valley Christian School. He married Betty De Noble on September 8, 1965. He had worked at Roorda Machine Shop of Rock Valley for 10 years and just recently began working at Rock Valley Block and Tile after the closing of Roorda's. He had run the family farm for his entire working life and it was his first love. He enjoyed tinkering on the farm and fixing anything broken, and was described as a "busybody" by many. He loved the outdoors, motorcycling and snowmobiling.

Survivors include three sons, Randy and his wife Charlotte Kooima of Sioux Center, Scott and Heather Kooima of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and Kevin Kooima of Rock Valley; two daughters, Cindy and her husband Troy Van Den Hul of Sioux Center and Melissa Kooima of Rock Valley; three grandchildren; fiance of three years, Patricia Rippentrop of Rock Valley; and sister, Janet Van Bochove of Hawarden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tom Kooima; one sister, Elsiena Driesen; and a nephew.
