Obituaries of Richard and Gerritje

Mr. Richard Sneller died suddenly last Tuesday evening while attending a ball game. He had been enjoying good health, and death came to him as the result of a heart attack. He was 61 years of age and would have been 62 on August 13.

Mr. Sneller is survived by his wife, the former Gertie Vande Weerd, and four children: Jennie, (Mrs. Tony Hoekstra) of Grand Rapids, Mich., Henrietta at home, Margaret (Mrs. C. Scheffer) of Sheldon and Mrs. Priscilla Dunn of Rock Valley. He is further survived by five grandchildren and three brothers, Henry John and Andrew, all of Sioux Center; three sisters mrs. Peter Baartman of Boyden, Mrs Arie Baartman of Middleburg and Mrs. Henry Zwiers of Sioux Center.

Mr. Sneller married Gertie Vande Weerd April 20, 1911 and settled four miles east of Sioux Center. They moved to Rock Valley in March, 1929, where they resided since. Mr. Sneller owned the Pioneer Dray line.

He was preceded in death by a brother William of Lester, who died just eleven months ago, following a sudden heart attack and a sister Mrs. Henry VanderSloot of Sanborn, who died in March, 1929.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, June 11, at one o'clock in the home and at one-thirty o'clock in the First Reformed church in Rock Valley. Rev. Henry Van Deelen officiated. Pallbearers were Gerrit Van Surksum, Steve Vander Well, Gys Blankespoor, Harold Roelofs, Ted Bauman and Peter Ver Burg. Burial took place at the Valley View cemetery at Rock Valley.

Mrs. Richard Sneller, 92, of Sioux Center, died July 25 in a hospital at Sioux Center. Services were at 10:00 a.m. July 25 in the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Dr. Thurman Rynbrandt officiated. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley.

Mrs. Sneller, the former Gertie Vande Weerd, was born Jan. 9, 1890, in Ede, Gelderland, The Netherlands, and came to the United States at the age of 11.

She married Richard Sneller April 20, 1911, at Rock Valley. He died June 7, 1949.

Survivors include four daughters, Jennie Hoekstra of Grandville, Mich., Henrietta Sneller of Sioux Center. Mrs. Cornelius (Margaret) Scheffer of Atlantic and Priscilla Douma of Sheldon; one brother, Gysbert of Lakewood, Calif.; four sisters, Minnie Franken and Dena Wesselink, both of Sioux Center, Mrs. Gerrit (Bertha) Wissink of Rock Valley, and Gertrude Gunnink of Healdsburg, Calif; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 11 greatgreat- grandchildren.

Obituaries of Cornelius and Margaret

Cornelius "Casey" Scheffer, 78, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, August 24, at a hospital in Sioux Center. Services were at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 26, at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Carl Boersma officiating. Burial was in Memory Garden, Sioux Center.

Scheffer was born October 29, 1914, in Carmel, the son of Albert and Helena (Van Tilburg) Scheffer. He married Margaret Sneller June 13, 1939, at Rock Valley. From 1939 until 1949 he worked at the Carmel Store. He worked in Sheldon from 1949 until 1954. The couple lived in Sioux Center from 1954 until 1962 where he worked as a feed salesman. He worked as a feed salesman in Estherville from 1962 until 1969. He worked for Caswell Equipment in Cherokee from 1969 until 1971 and from 1971 until 1992 they lived in Atlantic where he worked for Caswell Equipment, retiring in 1984. They moved to Sioux Center in 1992. He was a member of New Life Reformed Church. He had been an elder and deacon of First United Presbyterian Church of Atlantic. He was a long-time member of the Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a son, Roger and his wife Jan of Omaha; a daughter and her husband, Leona and Robert Bruinsma of Sioux Center; two sisters, Mrs. Arie (Magdalena) Schimmel of Davis, California, and Mrs. Clinton (Florence) Van Roekel of George; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
