Roy, son of Charles and Amanda Volbreicht Brockney, was born March 1, 1913 in Mitchell County, Iowa. He was a graduate of Riceville High School.
Roy was united in marriage to Annette Van De Weerd on Jan. 9, 1941, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Annette of Riceville; two sons: Duane and his wife, Judy, Brockney of Osage, and Dale and his wife, Margaret, Brockney of Charles City; one daughter, Karen Heskett of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Genevieve Cary; two brothers, Alvin and Leslie; and one sister, Laura Ferguson.
Annette, daughter of Herman and Effie (VanGravenhof) Van De Weerd, was born January 9, 1918 in York, Minnesota. Annette was united in marriage to Roy Frederick Brockney on January 9, 1941 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She was a homemaker .
Survivors include 2 step-sons: Duane and his wife Judy Brockney of Osage, Iowa and Dale and his wife Margaret Brockney of Charles City, Iowa; one daughter Karen Heskett of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers: Guy Van De Weerd , of Cresco, Iowa, Bert Van De Weerd and his wife Mary of Strongville, Ohio and a sister Mrs. Helen Hansen of Greeley, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy and a brother Marion.
Helen Hansen, age 89, of Greeley, passed away on Oct. 6, 2010, at North Colorado Medical Center. Helen, the daughter of Herman and Effie (Van Greuenhof) Van De Weerd, was born Feb. 13, 1921, near Lime Springs, Iowa. She was united in marriage on March 10, 1938, to Lawrence Hansen of Spring Valley, Minn., at Cresco, Iowa. After farming for several years, they opened a hardware store in Spring Valley.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Joe) Gualandri of Greeley and Kathleen (Murle) Wilson of Aurora; a son, Donald (Nancy) Hansen of Long Prairie, Minn.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a brother, Bert (Mary) Van De Weerd of Strongville, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; a granddaughter, Heidi Hansen; two brothers; and a sister.
At her request, she is donating her body to medical science.
