Primghar - Funeral services for Jennie Brink, 93, were Feb. 27, 1986 at 1:30 p.m., in the American Reformed Church, Primghar. The Rev. David Landegent officiated with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Primghar. Mrs. Brink passed away Feb. 24 at Prairie View Care Center, Sanborn.
The daughter of Gilbert & Nancy (De Kruif) Vander Weerd, she was born Oct. 27, 1892 in Maurice. She married Henry Ganzevoort and he died Dec. 13, 1918. She married John Brink, Feb. 16, 1926 and he died Dec. 3, 1966. She spent most of her lifetime in the Primghar vicinity and enterd Prairie View Home September 1, 1973.
Mrs. Brink is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Annetta) Dau, Everett, WA; and Mrs. Robert (Lena) Beatty, Paullina; three step-daughters, Mrs. James (Jennie) Huygens, Hospers; Nellie Luhrs, Primghar; and Mrs. John (Artie) Vander Pol, Primghar; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Bertha DeGraff, Sanborn; and Mrs. Ralph (Rose) Romberg, Paramount, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Cyril Ganzevoort and a granddaughter, Vivian Riddle.
Funeral services for Marie Ganzevoort, 86 of Spencer will be held at 10 a.m., today, Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Paul Kaldahl will officiate the service. Interment will take place at Hospers Cemetery at 2 p.m., Saturday. Lunch will be served following the funeral service at Grace Methodist Church in Spencer. Marie passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009 at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.
Marie Ganzevoort, the daughter of Dennis and Loella (Atkinson) Mathis, was born on June 7, 1922, in Beech Creek, Kent. She was raised and received her early education by attending country schools in Muhlenberg County. Following high school, Marie went to Hopkins, Kent., where she helped assemble planes during WWII.
On July 8, 1944, Marie married Cyril Ganzevoort in Kentucky. Following their marriage, they farmed in Kentucky for a short time and then the couple moved to Primghar, where they continued to farm. Over the next several years, the couple lived in the communities of Storm Lake, Langdon, Rossie, and Milford before settling in Arnolds Park in 1966. Marie worked at L&E Café and also at the Amusement Park. She also took care of foster children. After her husband's death in 1978, Marie moved to Spencer. Marie continued to baby sit and she also raised her grandchildren: Rachel and Brad. Marie was a member of Faith Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Larry; and her daughter, Vivian Riddle.
Marie is survived by her three sons: Jerry of Cedar Rapids, Dennis and his wife, Doris of Ruthven, and David and his wife, Kelly of Liberty, Tenn.; her three daughters: Mona Fagen and her husband, Rocky of Webb, Bev McGuire and her husband, Dale of Spencer, and Pat Donner and her husband, Lawrence of Portland, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bob Mathis of Nashville, Tenn.

Lena (Ganzevoort) Beatty was born on Sunday; August 1, 1915 in Summit Township, O'Brien County, Iowa. She received her education in a country school in Highland Township near Primghar. On September 23, 1933, she was united in marriage to John Matheson and they had two children, Donna and Del. After their marriage the couple lived near and in Primghar.
On June 6, 1964, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Beatty in Jackson, MN. The couple made their home in Paullina, where they owned and operated Paullina Farm Equipment. Her husband preceded her in death on March 24, 1996 in Orange City, IA. Lena remained in the family home until moving to Lincoln, NE to make her home near her son. Lena (Ganzevoort) Beatty, age:91 passed away in Lincoln on Saturday, September 30, 2006.
Those left to mourn her passing are her: daughter, Donna and her husband, Ron Bergeson of Sioux City, IA; a son, Del and his wife, Sandy Matheson of Lincoln, NE; three grandchildren, Michael Matheson of Lincoln, NE; Scott Matheson and his wife, Margaret and their children, Scotty, Brian and John of Davisburg, MI and Jane and her husband, Steve Bartunek of Lincoln, NE; a great-granddaughter, Amber Matheson Konradi and her husband, Lance and their children, Kaleigh and Ava of Lincoln, NE; step-great-granddaughter, Gail and her husband, Danny Richters and their children, Cameron, Cayden, Taylor and Reagan of Utica, NE; two step-grandchildren, Brad Bergeson and his wife, Diane and their children, Brian, Kate and Liz of Sioux City, IA and Rod Bergeson of Sioux Falls, SD and his children, Christine, Caroline and Daniel; two step-sisters, Nellie Luhrs of Primghar, IA and Jennie Huygens of Hospers, IA; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Annetta Dau; a brother, Cyril Ganzevoort; a step-sister, Artie Vander Pol; one niece, Vivian Riddle and a nephew, Larry Ganzevoort. May they rest in peace and may Our deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. May God give you the comfort and peace that you seek and may the souls of your loved ones rest in peace.
After today's service, relatives and friends are invited to join the family in the fellowship hall of the church. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Friday; October 6, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina; O'Brien County, Iowa. Interment will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
