Obituaries of Henry and Priscilla

Henry D. Kosters, 77, of Sioux Center died Monday, November 7, at his home in Sioux Center but was taken to the Sioux Center hospital. Services were at Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center on November 10, with the Rev. Mark De Witt and the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery. At the funeral service, three members of the quartet to which Kosters himself had belonged for a long time sang The Riches of Love and That Beautiful Land. Harold E. Vermeer, Henry Bartels and Henry Bonnema were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Henry Bonnema. The Rev. Mark De Witt sang a solo, What A Day That Will Be. Congregational hymns which were sung were I Will Sing of My Redeemer and When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder. Organist was Donna Den Herder. Dan Vicker read Psalm 25, which was the favorite psalm of Henry Kosters. Casket bearers were Larry Kosters, Ryan Kosters, Dan Vicker, Darby Vicker, James Kosters and Francis Kosters. Honorary bearers were Marvin Wierda, John Zeutenhorst and James Mahaffy.

Kosters was born December 13, 1916 in Sioux Center, the son of John and Johanna (Riemersma) Kosters. On February 12, 1941, he married Priscilla Vermeer at Sioux Center. Kosters was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, where he sang in the choir for more than 50 years. He was a farmer for more than 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Priscilla; two sons, Larry John of Colcunda, Nevada, and James and his wife, Kay, of Sioux Center; a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Lorraine) Vicker of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Ryan, Audra, Miranda and Kole Kosters, and Darby and Jill Vicker; two sisters, Sarah Kosters of Sioux Center and Mrs. Lyle (Eileen) Stange of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and a brother, Francis Kosters of Sioux Center.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother, John.

PRISCILLA KOSTERS, 87, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Sunday, December 16, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11am at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 10am in the chapel of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Visitation will be held Monday from 4pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6:30pm to 8pm at the Memorial Funeral home of Sioux Center. The Kosters Family prefers memorials to the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Priscilla (Vermeer) Kosters was born on February 12, 1920 to Jake G. and Minnie Vermeer in Sioux Center, Iowa. On Feb. 12, 1941 she was united in marriage to Henry D. Kosters and made their home on a farm south of Sioux Center, Iowa. In addition to farming, Priscilla was also employed by Sioux Center Produce, Otis Radio Factory and K-Products. Priscilla was a life long member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa. For many years, she enjoyed volunteering with the church quilting group. She was also known for making countless batches of her famous turkey soup which cheered and warmed the hearts of many people. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and watching game shows on TV.

Those preceding Priscilla in death include her husband, Henry; her son, Larry Kosters, and her parents. She resided at Kosgrove Assisted Living in Sioux Center, Iowa until her death on December 16, 2007 at the age of 87.
