Obituary of William Cornelius Kooiman
WILLIAM "BILL" KOOIMAN
April 15, 1934 - November 9, 2014
Rock Valley, Iowa: William "Bill" Kooiman, 80, of Rock Valley died peacefully at home on Sunday, November 9, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation with Rev. E. C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home. Condolences for the family may be left online at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Bill was born on April 15, 1934 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to William C. and Evelyn (Ruud) Kooiman. He grew up in the Rock Valley and Inwood, Iowa areas. Bill served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1959. Upon his return, Bill worked at Kooima Machine Company. He was employed at Mouw Motor Company in Sioux Center, Iowa until he retired.

Bill married Clazina Hoefakker on June 27, 1960. Together, they lived in Rock Valley their entire married life. Bill was known for his mechanical abilities and shared his expertise with countless individuals. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife, Clazina and six children, Connie (Randy) Schmidt of Beresford, SD, Brenda (William) Laman or Rock Valley, IA, Jane (Jeff) Stanton of Shawnee, KS, Bill (Michele) Kooiman of Olathe, KS, Cyndi (Jason) Priest of Minneapolis, MN, and Kristi Kooiman of Overland Park, KS. He dearly loved his 17 grandchildren, Lacey Schmidt (Jeff Berg), AJ Schmidt, Will Laman (Lauren Harding), Matt (Autumn) Laman, Ashley Laman, Brittany Laman, Caitlin Laman, Sydney Stanton, Jessica Stanton, Lauren Stanton, Joseph Lynch, Megan Lynch, Gavyn Priest, and Carter Priest; and his great-grandson, Owen Matthew Laman. He is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn Redden, Elaine Stevens, Mina DeBruin, and Jennie (Marinus) Maassen; sisters-in-law, Joyce Kooiman, Rhonda Kooiman, and Clarice Van Beek; brothers-in-law, Gene (Martha) Fauth, Henry (Arlene) Hoefakker, Teunis (Ruth) Hoefakker, and Len (Trudy) den Hoed; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. Kooiman, Sr. and Evelyn Kooiman; step-mother, Doris Kooiman; mother-in-law, Clazina Hoefakker; father-in-law, Henry Hoefakker; 3 brothers, Ronald, James, and Dennis Kooiman; 2 sisters, Gertrude Fauth and Corneal Lusk; 2 sisters-in-law, Wilhemina Van Beek and Angeline den Hoed; and special friends, John and Hattie Meerbeek.

Many thanks to all of those who cared for Bill during his journey with cancer; their care allowed Bill's family the opportunity to honor his request to remain at home during the last weeks of his life.
