Sioux Falls with the family present from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
A Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM Monday, December 31, 2007 at George Boom Funeral
Home with burial to follow at Hills of Rest Memorial Park.
Arie "Ike" Van Den Berg, the adopted son of John and Henrietta Van Den Berg was born May 26, 1926 in Pipestone County, MN. He attended high school in Rock Valley, IA. Ike moved to Sioux Falls in 1948, and joined the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Corporal before his discharge.
On March 26, 1954, Ike was united in marriage with Deon Gerry in Sioux Falls. He worked for All-American Transport for 15 years as a driver. Ike then was employed by Allied Van Lines until his retirement in 1984. Ike was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ike spent many mornings at Sunshine having coffee during his retirement. He remained very active in his later years until the onset of Alzheimer's.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and a sister.
Deon VanDenBerg, age 87, of Sioux Falls, SD died on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at
Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Thursday, February 18, 2021 at George Boom Funeral
Home & On-Site Crematory.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 also at the funeral home from
5:00 - 7:00 PM.
Interment will be at Hills of Rest, Sioux Falls.
Immediately following the burial, guests are invited to a luncheon at The Alliance
(1600 W. Russell St. Sioux Falls, SD 57104).
Deon LaMay Gerry was born on February 10, 1934 to Harold and Eleanor (Overcash) Gerry at Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1952. She then attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN for one year. After school, she worked at All-American Transfer until her marriage.
She was united in marriage to Arie VanDenBerg on March 26, 1954 in Sioux Falls, SD. Deon would later raise her family in Sioux Falls and begin working at Avera McKennan Hospital for the next 10 years. She then went to work for Sioux Valley Hospital for five years. Deon later went to work for North Central Heart Hospital until her retirement.
Deon loved camping, spending time at Lake Poinsett, reading, spending time with family, and volunteering, especially with CASA. She also enjoyed taking care of her plants, including her ferns, and church choir. She was a member of East Side Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Holly Metzler of Hills, MN, David VanDenBerg, Daniel (Lisa) VanDenBerg both of Sioux Falls, Jean (Oliver) Hohbach of Valley Springs, SD; sisters, Janet Wilcox of Sioux Falls, Kristy Gerry and Michael Millikan of Lincoln, NE, brother, Gordon (Sheila) Graham; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Barb Gran and Mrs. Bonnie Gerry; seven grandchildren, Kate (Kodie) Van Voorst, Rebecca (Derek) Spykerboer, Chad (Amber) VanDenBerg, Cory (Jenn) Van Den Berg, Sarah (Casey) Delaney, Molly (Jeff) Olinger, Abbey (Zach) Bauman; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Eleanor; husband, Arie "Ike"; brothers, Harold, Gene, and Dean; and son-in-law, Terry Metzler.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to Meals on Wheels of Sioux Falls.
