Obituaries of Henry and Clazina
Clazina Hoefakker, 83, died Saturday, August 24, 1996, at her home. Clazina Fluit was born March 11, 1913, in Sioux Center, Iowa. The family moved near Lester, Iowa, in 1919.

She married Henry R. Hoefakker on Dec. 28, 1938, in Inwood, Iowa. They farmed near Rock Valley until they moved into town in January of l971. Her husband preceded her in death on November 6, 1975.

Clazina was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; two daughters, Wilmina Van Beek and Angeline Den Hoed; four brothers, Henry, William, Jella, and Teunis Fluit; three sisters, Jennie Rozeboom, Antonia Rozeboom, and Gertie Van Voorst, and a grandson, Steven Hoefakker.

Services were Wednesday at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with burial at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley

Funeral services were held at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley at 1:30 P.M. November 10 for Henry R. Hoefakker, 62, of Rock Valley, who died at the Rock Valley hospital November 6 after a long illness. Services were conducted by the Rev. William Suyker and burial was in Valley View cemetery at Rock Valley.

Mr. Hoefakker was born August 16, 1913, in Rock Valley. He married Clazina Fluit December 28, 1938, in Inwood. They farmed in the Rock Valley area until retiring.

Rock Valley, Iowa: William "Bill" Kooiman, 80, of Rock Valley died peacefully at home on Sunday, November 9, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation with Rev. E. C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home.

Bill was born on April 15, 1934 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to William C. and Evelyn (Ruud) Kooiman. He grew up in the Rock Valley and Inwood, Iowa areas. Bill served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1959. Upon his return, Bill worked at Kooima Machine Company. He was employed at Mouw Motor Company in Sioux Center, Iowa until he retired.

Bill married Clazina Hoefakker on June 27, 1960. Together, they lived in Rock Valley their entire married life. Bill was known for his mechanical abilities and shared his expertise with countless individuals. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife, Clazina and six children, Connie (Randy) Schmidt of Beresford, SD, Brenda (William) Laman or Rock Valley, IA, Jane (Jeff) Stanton of Shawnee, KS, Bill (Michele) Kooiman of Olathe, KS, Cyndi (Jason) Priest of Minneapolis, MN, and Kristi Kooiman of Overland Park, KS. He dearly loved his 17 grandchildren, Lacey Schmidt (Jeff Berg), AJ Schmidt, Will Laman (Lauren Harding), Matt (Autumn) Laman, Ashley Laman, Brittany Laman, Caitlin Laman, Sydney Stanton, Jessica Stanton, Lauren Stanton, Joseph Lynch, Megan Lynch, Gavyn Priest, and Carter Priest; and his great-grandson, Owen Matthew Laman. He is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn Redden, Elaine Stevens, Mina DeBruin, and Jennie (Marinus) Maassen; sisters-in-law, Joyce Kooiman, Rhonda Kooiman, and Clarice Van Beek; brothers-in-law, Gene (Martha) Fauth, Henry (Arlene) Hoefakker, Teunis (Ruth) Hoefakker, and Len (Trudy) den Hoed; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. Kooiman, Sr. and Evelyn Kooiman; step-mother, Doris Kooiman; mother-in-law, Clazina Hoefakker; father-in-law, Henry Hoefakker; 3 brothers, Ronald, James, and Dennis Kooiman; 2 sisters, Gertrude Fauth and Corneal Lusk; 2 sisters-in-law, Wilhemina Van Beek and Angeline den Hoed; and special friends, John and Hattie Meerbeek.

Many thanks to all of those who cared for Bill during his journey with cancer; their care allowed Bill's family the opportunity to honor his request to remain at home during the last weeks of his life.


Clazina Kooiman, 78, of Rock Valley, IA, died Friday, October 9, 2020, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 16, at 11:00 AM at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. The service can be audio-streamed at [...]. Private family burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Public visitation, with no family present, will be held Thursday, October 15, from 2:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Clazina Wilhelmina Kooiman, daughter of Henry and Clazina (Fluit) Hoefakker, was born January 24, 1942, on the family farm near Rock Valley, IA. She married William Kooiman on June 27, 1960. The couple lived in Rock Valley their entire married life. Bill died November 9, 2014.

Clazina was a lifetime member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation. She worked at K-Products, Tyson Foods, Rock Valley Community School, and she also had an in-home daycare. Clazina loved gardening, quilting, scrapbooking, and being outdoors. She was very welcoming and enjoyed having people in her home. In addition, Clazina enjoyed going out to eat and playing games with her special circle of friends. She will be fondly remembered as Zena to her friends and family.

She is survived by six children, Connie (Randy) Schmidt of Beresford, SD, Brenda (William) Laman of Rock Valley, IA, Jane (Jeff) Stanton of Shawnee, KS, Bill (Michele) Kooiman of Olathe, KS, Cyndi (Jason) Priest of Round Rock, TX and Kristi Kooiman (Ryan Bowes) of Raymore, MO. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Lacey Schmidt (Jeff Berg), AJ Schmidt (Breanne Benstead), Adam Schmidt, Will (Lauren) Laman, Matt (Autumn) Laman, Ashley Laman, Brittany Laman, Caitlin Laman, Sydney Stanton, Jessica Stanton (John Pittala), Lauren Stanton, Joseph (Krista) Lynch, Megan Lynch, Gavyn Priest, and Carter Priest; 3 great-grandchildren, Owen Laman, Miles Laman, and Emilia Lynch; 2 brothers, Henry (Arlene) Hoefakker and Teunis (Ruth) Hoefakker; special sister-in-law, Clarice (Bart) Elshout; 2 brothers-in-law, Len (Trudy) den Hoed and Gene (Martha) Fauth; 4 sisters-in-law, Mina DeBruin, Jennie Maassen, Rhonda Kooiman, and Evelyn Redden; and many special nieces and nephews.

Obituary of Wilmina
Mrs. Gerald Van Beek of rural Inwood, formerly Wilmina Hoefakker of Rock Valley, died very unexpectedly on Sunday, December 5, at the home of her mother, Mrs. Henry Hoefakker.

According to a family spokesman, the Van Beek's had gone to church in Rock Valley and had stopped at the home of her mother. After eating a lunch Mrs. Van Beek was found in the bath room by her mother. She was given artificial respiration by members of the family but those efforts failed. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Services were held on Wednesday, December 8, at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley with the Rev. William Suyker officiating. Interment was in the Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley.

Wilmina Hoefakker Van Beek was born on May 26, 1944, at Rock Valley. She was married on August 26, 1967 at Rock Valley.

Surviving are the widower, one son, Terry Lee; one daughter, Sandra Dawn, both at home; her mother, Mrs. Henry Hoefakker; her grandmother, Mrs. Henry Hoefakker, Sr., of Rock Valley; two brothers, Henry Hoefakker of Inwood and Teunis Hoefakker of rural Rock Valley; and two sisters, Mrs. William (Clazena) Kooiman of Rock Valley and Mrs. Leonard (Angie) Den Hoed of Sioux Center.

Obituary of Angeline
Angeline Den Hoed, 32, of Rock Valley died Wednesday at her home in Rock Valley of natural causes. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley. The Rev. A.M. Den Boer officiated. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery.

Mrs. Den Hoed, the former Angeline Hoefakker, was born Dec. 17, 1951, in Sioux Center. She attended Rock Valley public schools. She married Leonard Den Hoed Sept. 17,1970, in Rock Valley.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Bruce, Glen, Timothy and Larry and one daughter, Susan, all at home; two brothers, Henry of Ferndal, Wash, and Teunis of Rock Valley, one sister, Mrs. William (Clazina) Kooiman, Rock Valley, and her mother, Mrs. Clazina Hoefakker of Rock Valley.
