Obituaries of Warren and Erma

Warren H. Westercamp, 71, of Newton, formerly of Burlington, died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

He was born to John and Elsie Triplett Westercamp. On March 14, 1968, he married Erma M. Lane in Salinas, California.

He was an Army veteran. He graduated from Banaparte High School. He lived much of his adult life in Cupertino and San Jose, California, returning to Iowa after his retirement in 1990. He attended Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. He was a member of Bonaparte Masonic Lodge. He loved being outdoors and working on his 8N Ford Tractor.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Deanna Weter and Deborah Horning, both of Newton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles and LaVerne of Farmington, Rex of Mount Sterling, Max of Bonaparte, Marvin and Dave, both of Keosauqua; and sisters, Velma Caston of Burlington, Audrey Caston of Mason City, and Vivian Kreiss and Joyce Keller, both of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.

Funeral services were held at Community Heights Alliance Education Center, with the Revs. Mark Caston and Syd McCroey officiiating.


Erma Mae Westercamp, 91, of Newton died on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Newton Village Skilled Care. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, January 15, 2017, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Erma’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Erma, the daughter of John William and Pearl (Rose) Lane, was born on January 7, 1926 in Webb, Iowa. She grew up in Iowa and graduated from Webb High School. Erma lived for a time in Colorado before moving to California where she lived most of her life. While is California Erma worked as a bank teller for the Bank of America in San Jose. In 1968, Erma was united in marriage with Warren "Hugh" Westercamp, who was also originally from Iowa, in Salinas, California. For most of their married life, Erma was a homemaker. In 1990, Erma moved back to Iowa and lived in Newton.

Erma was a member of the Newton Moose Lodge and bowling leagues in San Jose and Newton. She also loved to travel and had been to almost every country. Erma enjoyed exercising and swimming and faithfully attended classes at the Newton YMCA. She also loved to dance her entire life.

Those left to honor Erma’s memory are her two daughters, Deanna (Bill) Weter of Newton and Deborah Horning of Newton; grandchildren, Landon (Sarah) Dixon, Alisa (Scott) Buchli, Nicole (Andy) Tullis, April Horning (Eric Hartz), Jamie Weter, Buffi Weter, and Stephanie (Josh) Worley; her great-grandchildren, Frank A. Dixon, Drew Harmon, Collin Buchli, Christian Buchli, Kiya Dixon, Deacon Poole, Daide Hartz, Mackenzie Schippers, Corgan Worley, and Finnigan Worley; sister, Garnet Vierow of Albert City, Iowa; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh Westercamp; grandson, Franklin A. Dixon; sisters, Helen (Byron) Brinkley, Velda (Earl) Wolff, and Gwen (Gale) Howe; brother, Burdette (Martha) Lane; and brother-in-law, Chris Vierow.
