On December 30, 1931, she married Gillis Haverdink at Alton. They farmed in the Orange City area for forty years. Since 1958, they have lived in town. Mr. Haverdink passed away April 16, 1988, at Sioux City. Mrs. Haverdink had been a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. Since late October, of 1991, she has lived at the Heritage House.
She was a very active member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City, where she held offices in Reformed Church Women and Lydia Circle and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the board of directors of the Pioneer Memorial Home for many years and had been involved in the Christian's Women Club. She also participated in volunteer activities, such as the Bible League and assisting foreign students and refugee families.
Survivors include her four children, Howard and his wife, Jane; Eugene and his wife, Thelma; and Mayris and her husband, Koenraad De Jong, all of Orange City; and Virgil and his wife, Audrey, of Ankeny; twelve grandchildren, Carol Kleyer, Jay and Mark; Gregory, Deane Lafferty, Rodney and David; Kevin and Daniel De Jong; and Michael, Michelle and Marlon; seven great-grandchildren, Kristin and Matthew Kleyer; Jenifer; Aaron, Caleb and Julia; and Kolbie De Jong; sister, Martina Muilenburg, of Orange City; and brother, Simon Korver, of Lynden, WA.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, William, Henry, infant Arthur, Arthur, Myron, and John Korver.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 4, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Oratige City.

Gillis was born May 17, 1907 at Holland, Michigan, the son of William Haverdink and Hannah Tucker Haverdink. In 1929, he came to Sioux County as a farm laborer. On December 30,1931, he married Wilhelmina Korver at Alton. They farmed in the Orange City area for forty years. Since 1958, they have lived in town.
Mr. Haverdink was a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City, where he served on the consistory. as both elder and deacon, and was a member of various committees. He had been president of the boards of directors of Sioux Rural Electric Cooperative and Farmers Cooperative Elevator of Alton. He had been a member of the boards of directors of Farmers Cooperative Oil Association and the Christian School, both in Orange City. He also served as a councilman for the City of Orange City.
Survivors include his wife, "Myna"; four children, Howard, Eugene, and Mrs. Koenraad (Mayris) De Jong, all of Orange City and Virgil of Ankeny; twelve grandchildren, Mrs. Mark (Carol Kleyer), Jay, and Mark, Gregory, Mrs. Gregory (Deane) Lafferty, Rodney, and David, Kevin and Daniel De Jong, and Michael, Michelle, and Marlon; five greatgrandchildren, Christy and Matthew Kleyer, Jenifer, and Aaron and Caleb; eight brothers and sisters, Harold of Jenison, Mich., Mrs. Harm (Ida) Kotman, Mrs. Murton (Henrietta) Lankheet, and Mrs. Donald (Irene) Kaper, all of Holland, Mich., Walter of Jenison, Henry and Mrs. Evelyn Avink, both of Zeeland, Mich., and Mrs. Gerald (Geneva) Lubbers of Hamilton, Mich.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by the brother James.

Howard William was born Dec. 3, 1932, in rural Orange City, the son of Gillis and Wilhelmina "Myna" (Korver) Haverdink. He was raised in the Orange City area. On July 23, 1958, he married Jane Grace Rens at Lester. They farmed southwest of Orange City. In August of 1994, he semi-retired and the couple moved into Orange city.
Mr. Haverdink was active in his church and community. He served on the consistory of the First Reformed church as both an elder and a deacon. He was a member of the American Legion and the Sioux County Zoning Board of Adjustment. He also served on the boards of directors of the Farmers Cooperative Elevators of Alton and Games, the Floyd Valley Pig Corporation, and Heritage Estates. He enjoyed his family, farming and golfing.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Carol and Mark Kleyer of Orange City; two sons and their wives, Jay and Lori Haverdink of Overland Park, Kan., and Mark and Suzanne Haverdink of Holland, Mich,; three grandchildren, Kristin and Matthew Kleyer and Jenifer Haverdink; two brothers, Eugene Haverdink of Orange City and Virgil Haverdink of Ankeny and a sister, Mayris De Jong of Orange City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Kleyer.

Jane Haverdink, age 81 of Orange City, passed away March 3, 2019, at the Landsmeer Ridge
Retirement Community in Orange City, Iowa.
Jane Grace was born on November 5, 1937, at Rock Rapids, the daughter of Henry and
Johanna Cornelia (Vermeulen) Rens.
She was raised on a farm northwest of Lester and completed the twelfth grade at the
Larchwood high school.
She attended Northwestern Junior College in Orange City for two years and received
her teaching certificate in 1957.
On July 23, 1958, she married Howard William Haverdink in Lester. They made their home on his family's farm south of Orange City. She briefly taught school before the couple started their own family. She enjoyed working on the farm, helping with the pigs, milking cows, and anything else that needed to be done. She also worked as a librarian at the Orange City Public Library for more than 34 years. In 1994, they moved to a home in Orange City. Howard passed away on April 25, 1999, in Sioux City, after more than forty years of marriage. In January of 2018, Jane became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community.
Jane was baptized and made her profession of faith at the Bethel Reformed Church in Lester. She later became a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City where she participated in the Priscilla and Mary-Martha Circles, women's work groups, the Tulip Festival church stand, and had served as president of the Reformed Church Women's Ministries. She was also a regular volunteer at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City. Jane was an avid reader and never stopped learning new things.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Carol and Mark Kleyer, of Orange City; Jay and Lori Haverdink, of Overland Park, Kansas; and Mark and Suzanne Haverdink, of Orange City; five grandchildren, Jenifer, and her husband, Josh Crompton; Kristi, and her husband, Clint Carne; Matt Kleyer, and his wife, Nikita; Allison Haverdink; and Eli Haverdink; six great-grandchildren, Dylan Crompton; Cade, Archer, and Hazel Carne; and Evie and Jorah Kleyer; two brothers, Bert Rens, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and John Rens, and his wife, Ruth, of Larchwood; a brother-in-law and his wife, Eugene and Thelma Haverdink, of Orange City; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Haverdink, of Ankeny.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Kleyer; a great-grandson, Shane Kleyer; two sisters and their husbands, Margaret and Ben Kracht, and Nellie and Tom Browne; a brother, Case Rens; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rens, and Mayris, and her husband Koenraad De Jong; and a brother-in-law, Virgil Haverdink.

Mrs. Thelma Haverdink, age 83, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020,
at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, August 8, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed
Church in Orange City.
The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate.
Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman
Funeral Home in Orange City.

participate in the service via live stream at Thelma Jean was born on June 21, 1937, in Le Mars, the daughter of Evert and Henrietta (Vander Wilt) Jouwstra. She was raised in Rock Valley, where she graduated from the Rock Valley High School before enrolling at the Northwestern Junior College in Orange City. After earning her teaching degree, she taught elementary school in Rock Valley for two years.
On August 13, 1958, she married Eugene Myrl Haverdink in Rock Valley. They made their home on a farm near Orange City. She taught grade school at the Orange City Christian School for one year and later for Wee Dutchmen Preschool and Wee Blessings Preschool in Orange City for 22 years. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she participated in the Women's Bible Study groups and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed anything having to do with children and loved to laugh with others. Her family will miss her beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor.
Survivors include her husband of almost 62 years, "Geneâ" of Orange City; four children and their spouses, Greg and Laura Haverdink, of Orange City; Deane and Greg Lafferty, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; Rod and Courtney Haverdink, of Sergeant Bluff; and Dave and Sara Haverdink, of St. Louis, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Humme, of Rock Valley, and Fran, and her husband, Mohummed Sadden, of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Evert and Ellen Jouwstra, of Lennox, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Eunice and Gary Vander Wilt; and a brother-in-law, James Humme.

Mrs. Mayris De Jong, age 77, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the Orange City Area Health System. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, March 23, at 10:00am, at the New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jeffrey Whitt will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday, at 9:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Wednesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.
Mayris Gayle was born on May 9, 1939, in Orange City, the daughter of Gillis and Wilhelmina (Korver) Haverdink. She was raised in the Orange City area, where she attended elementary school and graduated from the Northwestern Classical Academy.
On September 4, 1959, she married Koenraad M. De Jong in Orange City. They farmed southwest of Orange City, where she was a homemaker. For many years, she was also a seamstress, making wedding attendant dresses and Tulip Festival costumes and working at De Vries Interiors. "Rod" passed away on February 7, 1998, in Orange City, after almost forty years of marriage. Mrs. De Jong continued to live on the family farm until 2006, when she moved to the Pioneer Court in Orange City.
She had been an active member of several area churches, most recently the New Hope Evangelical Free Church. At these churches, she sang in the choirs and participated in Bible studies. She was also the secretary for the Dover Avenue Alliance Church in Orange City. She was an inspiration to many, dealing with several years of pain. She sent many cards and always gave solid advice.
Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Kevin and Susan De Jong, of Orange City; and their family, Josh and Jami Van Muyden, and Austin, Kaylinn, Syerah, and Oliver Van Muyden; and Dan and Kim De Jong, of Orange City, and their family, Kolbie and Tony Vande Brake, Lawton De Jong and fiancé Heather Busch, and Morgan De Jong; a brother and his wife, Eugene and Thelma Haverdink, of Orange City; two sisters-in-law, Jane Haverdink, of Orange City; and Audrey Ann Haverdink, of Ankeny; and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Virgil Haverdink.
Koenraad Muilenburg De Jong was born March 22, 1938, at Orange City, the son of Julius Evan and Hulda Rosella (Muilenburg) De Jong. He was raised at Orange City, where he graduated from Northwestern Classical Academy and attended Northwestern Junior College.
On September 4, 1959, he married Mayris Gail Haverdink at Orange City. They farmed southwest of Orange City. Mr. De Jong was a member of the Dover Avenue Alliance Church, where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He was also a frequent soloist.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Kevin and Susan, and Dan and Kim all of Orange City; and three grandchildren, Josh, Kolbie and Lawton.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ada Miriam De Jong.
Memorials are being directed to Sioux County Hospice.

Virgil Haverdink, 72, passed away peacefully January 16, 2015, after a battle with
Alzheimer's.
He was born in a quaint farmhouse on June 27, 1942, in Seney, IA, the son of Gillis
and Wilhelmina Haverdink.
Virgil was united in marriage to Audrey Verdoorn on June 5, 1964, in Orange City, IA. They lived in Moline, IL and Ames, IA until moving to Ankeny where they resided for over 40 years. He received his Master's degree in Engineering from Iowa State University in 1967. Virgil was a Project Engineer at John Deere for 40 years, retiring in 2004. During his career, he was named on more than 20 patents, including the first round baler.
Virgil was an active member at Bethany Reformed Church in Des Moines. Virgil will be remembered as a selfless man who was always giving of himself and assisting others in need. He had a great sense of humor and could fix anything. Virgil enjoyed spending time with his family, following the Iowa State Cyclones, riding his bicycle, and playing ping-pong.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Audrey Haverdink; children, Michael (Natalie) Haverdink, Michelle (Bob) Goodrich, and Marlon (Cora) Haverdink; siblings, Eugene (Thelma) Haverdink and Mayris De Jong; parents-in-law, Anthony and Ann Verdoorn; sisters-in-law, Jane Haverdink and Arla Stover; grandchildren, Jared, Noah, Shelby, Grant, Luke, Emily, Andrew, and Rachel; as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howard; and a brother-in-law, Rod De Jong.
