Obituary of John and Kathryn
John Louis Vinke, age 89, of South Holland, IL, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Beloved husband of the Kathryn Vinke (nee DeYoung). Dear father of Jill (Quentin) Carter, John Louis (Janet) Vinke Jr., Craig (Mary) Vinke, Robert Vinke, and Mary Beth (Dann) Schroeder. Proud grandfather of 13 and great-grandfather of 12. Loving son of the late Harry William and the late Annie Jaynes Vinke. Fond brother of James Paul (Lynn) Vinke and the late Harry William Vinke Jr.

Visitation Friday, August 23, 2013 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home 649 E. 162nd St. (Rt.6/159th St.) South Holland, IL 60473. Funeral service Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at First Reformed Church (15924 South Park Ave. South Holland, IL 60473) with Rev. Terry DeYoung and Rev. Mel DeVries officiating. Interment Homewood Memorial Gardens - Homewood, IL.

Mr. Vinke was a W.W. II Army veteran and served in Patton's 3rd Army, Yankee Division, 26th Infantry. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and with his service he was awarded the Silver and Bronze stars. He was also a member of the American Legion South Holland Post#883 and a longtime member of the South Holland Lions Club and a member of First Reformed Church in South Holland. Mr. Vinke also served as a Village of South Holland Trustee for 25 years and was a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Dolton.

Memorial contributions may be given to the South Holland Lions Club.
