Obituary of Verna De Kock - van Roekel

Verna De Kock, age 83, of Sheldon died Friday, June 6, 1997 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center at Sheldon.

Services were held on Monday, June 9 at the First Reformed Church in Sanborn. The Rev. Thomas Hoogendoorn officiated. Burial was held prior to the services at 11:00 a.m. in Sherman Township Cemetery at Maurice under the direction of the Sanborn Funeral Home at Sanborn.

Verna was born March 26, 1914 at Maurice to George and Hattie (Vander Stoep) Van Roekel. She was raised and received her education in the Maurice area.

She married Vernon De Kock Jan. 30, 1935 at Maurice. The couple resided and worked in northwest Iowa. Their later years were spent at Sheldon. Mr. De Kock died in December of 1985. She continued to reside in Sheldon until enentering the Prairie View Nursing Home at Sanborn on Dec; 12, 1996.

Mrs. De Kock was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn. She taught Sunday School and catechism classes, enjoyed the choir, and participated in Women's Circle. She enjoyed making quilts for her family.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Rosalie and Robert Scholten of Melvin; four grandchildren, Randy, Ronald and Ranae Scholten, and Rachelle Davis; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard Van Roekel of Orange City; and three sisters, Mildred Reinking of Maurice, Esther Mieras and Shirley Dykstra, both of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Wayne, and a brother, Wallace Van Roekel.
