GERRIT SANDBULTE

Funeral services were held Friday, December 14, at 1 p.m. from the residence near Carmel and at 1:30 p.m. from the Carmel Reformed church, for Gerrlt Sandbulte, who died Wednesday, December 12, after a lingering illness of a year. Rev. Wm. Hoffman officiated and burial was made in the Carmel cemetery under the direction of the Co-operative Funeral Service.

Mr. Sandbulte was born October 31, 1902, a son of Johan Sandbulte and Johanna Loverink, and lived near Carmel all his life.

On March 1, 1929, he was united in marriage to Matilda Marie Mouw. They moved to a farm 1 ¼ miles west of Carmel and lived there until his death.

To this union three children were born, Vernon John, on the farm; Lorna and Marvelle, at home.

Survivors include the widow, the three children, three grandchildren, and the following three sisters and two brothers: Johanna, Mrs. Henry Wolfswinkle, Sioux Center; Minnie, Mrs. Case Schenk, Bellflower, Calif.; Marie, Mrs. John Remmerde, Rock Valley; William, Rock Valley; and Henry, Sioux Center.

His parents, three sisters and one brother preceded him in death, Anna, Mrs. Mat Redeker; Hattie, Mrs. John De Groot; Dona, Mrs. Dick Wesselink; and John.

Matilda Marie Sandbulte, 100, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, December 25, at the Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center.

Funeral service was Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Carmel Reformed Church of Rural Rock Valley with the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Interment was in Carmel Cemetery of Rural Rock Valley.

Mrs. Sandbulte was born December 17, 1907, to John and Grace (Van Roekel) Mouw in Sioux Center. She grew up in the Carmel area and attended Carmel country school and one year of high school in Sioux Center.

She married Gerrit Sandbulte on March 1, 1929, in Carmel. The couple farmed near Carmel for 27 years until his death on December 12, 1956.

She moved to Sioux Center where she resided in her own home until 1999 when she became a resident of Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center.

She was a lifelong member of Carmel Reformed Church. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, as well as spending time in her garden. She will be remembered for her needlework and baking.

She took great pride in being a part of Hope Haven's Foster Grandparent program.

Survivors are her three children and their spouses, Vernon and Joann of Rock Valley, Lorna and Art Ter Horst of Orange City and Marvelle and Peter D. Vander Zwaag of Orange City; 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 12 great-greatgrandchildren; sister, Junaida Dibbet of Sioux Center; three sisters-in-law, Marie Mouw and Mina Mouw, both of Sioux Center, and Kathryn Mouw of Rock Valley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Bernard, Gerald and Melvin Mouw; brother-in-law, Rich Dibbet; an infant grandson; two infant great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

The Sandbulte family prefers memorials be directed to Carmel Reformed Church New Horizon Fund.
