On November 24, 1892 Hendrick Kraayenbrink married Alyda Nyman in Gelderland, Holland. To this union nine children ware born. Two boys passed away, leaving a family of five boys and two girls. Children by age are Johanna, John, Albert, Henry, Dick, Lena, and Ben.
The family immigrated to America leaving Holland May 4, 1912. Destination, Sioux Center IA.
Ben Kraayenbrink grew up near Sioux Center and in 1929 married Jeanette Van Roekel, daughter of Gerrit and Hattie Van Roekel. Ben and Jeanette lived by Sioux Center all their life and raised a family of seven children, three sons and four daughters. Ben and Jeanette celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary Qctober 5, 1989.
Children of Ben and Jeanette by age are Harry, Darlene, Alvin, Dick, Bernice, Joyce and Linda.
Harry married Wilma Cleveringa in 1956, lives in Sioux Center and has four daughters. Debra married to Greg Getting lives in Hartley, Lynne, at Sioux Falls, S.D., Pamela married Bruce Kellen, LeMars, IA, Karen, a student at Iowa State in Ames.
Darlene married Peter Moss in 1950 and lives near Hospers, and has two daughters and one son. Marjorie lives in California, Beverly married Larry Heemstra and lives in LeMars, and Phillip and Julie live in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Alvin married Jeanine De Vries in 1954 and lives in Oelwein, Iowa, and has five sons. David and Carol live in Des Moines, Iowa, Jeff and Janice at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Timothy and Sally in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mark and Joni in Minneapolis, MN, and Randy and MarIa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Dick married Virginia Overlander in 1956 and lives in Sioux Center. They have three sons and one daughter. Dan and Doreen, Pella, Iowa, Steve and Deb, Pella, Iowa, Michael and Lori, Sioux Center, and Rachel, a student at Iowa State, Ames, Iowa.
Bernice married John Vander Stouwe in 1958 and lives in Cypress, California. They have one son and one daughter. Terry and Teri. California, and Jody married David Cunningham, and lives in California.
Joyce married Alan Brown in 1979 and lives in Cypress, California, and has one daughter Heather.
Linda married James Lyons in 1966 and lives in Washington, D.C.
Ben and Jeanette presently have been able to enjoy the blessings of nineteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. They enjoy having them come for frequent visits. God has blessed our family greatly in years gone by.

Ben Kraayenbrink, 89, of Sioux Center died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Sioux Center Community Hospital. Services were Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Reformed Church chapel, Sioux Center, with the Rev. Roger Voskuil and the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Kraayenbrink was born Oct. 20, 1911, in Holland, the son of Hendrik and Alyda (Nyman) Kraayenbrink.
He married Jeannette Van Roekel on Oct. 5, 1929, in Sioux City. They farmed and he also served as a police officer.
He was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
He enjoyed fishing and pitching horseshoes.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two daughters, Darlene Moss and Linda Lyons; a great-grandson, Joshua; and six brothers and sisters, Johanna, John, Albert, Henry, Lena and Dick.

Jeanette Kraayenbrink, 88, of Sioux Center died Friday, November 22, at Sioux Center. Services were Tuesday, November 26, at 1:30 p.m. at First Reformed Church, Sioux Center, with the Rev. Mark De Witt and the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating.
Mrs. Kraayenbrink was born on July 12, 1908, in Sioux Center to Geurt and Driesje (Vande Berg) Van Roekel. She married Ben Kraayenbrink on October 5, 1929.
She was a life-long member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Darlene Moss, on September 14, 1996; two brothers, Abe and Gerrit G. A. Van Roekel; and two sisters, Johanna Klein and Mina Kroon.

Harry Lester Kraayenbrink was born February 20, 1930 to Ben and Jeanette (Van Roekel) Kraayenbrink in Sioux Center, Iowa. He was raised on a farm near Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1947. He entered the United States Army on February 26, 1952, during the Korean Conflict, he was stationed in Germany. He received his honorable discharge on February 9, 1954 and returned home to Sioux Center.
Harry was united in marriage to Wilma Cleveringa on April 20, 1956 at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He worked at the Sioux Center Co-op and the Sioux Center Lumberyard before moving to Maurice in 1959, where he began farming. He farmed in Maurice for 6 years before moving to a farm north of Sioux Center. This is where Harry and Wilma raised their 4 daughters. Harry retired from farming in 1988. Harry was also employed throughout the years by Casey’s Bakery and Harker’s. After moving to town, they were fortunate to move back into the first home they built back in 1956.
Harry was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher. He also shared his faith with prison inmates through Crossroads Bible Ministries. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and VFW. He had many hobbies and interests, but especially enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, golfing, fishing, bike riding, and playing pool and cards at the Senior Center. He treasured time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending their various activities. Harry would often remark 'We have the best family ever!'. Harry and Wilma also enjoyed traveling to visit family and going to the lakes.
He entered Royale Meadows Care Center in SIoux Center on February 17, 2017 and remained there until his death.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wilma of Sioux Center, Iowa; four daughters, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Debra (Greg) Getting of Hartley, Iowa, their daughter Emilee (Jason) Freed, their daughters Macin and Hayden; Lynne (Richard) Fiegen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, their children Ben and Elizabeth; Pam (Bruce) Kellen of LeMars, Iowa, their children Kelsi (Chad) Macek, Drew and Alex; Karen (Carl) Helle of Madison, Wisconsin, their children Sam, Sydney, Jack and Lydia; brothers & sisters: Alvin (Jeanine) Kraayenbrink, Dick (Virgie) Kraayenbrink, Bernice (John) Vander Stouwe, Joyce (Alan) Brown, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James Lyons, John (Marjorie) Cleveringa, Margaret (Lee) Erickson, Garold (Chris) Cleveringa Fran (Denny) Vollink and Theresa Cleveringa; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Jeanette Kraayenbrink; two sisters, Darlene Moss and Linda Lyons; and brother-in-law, Pete Moss.
Harry will be lovingly remembered as an amazing role model, mentor and man of faith, who, even through difficult years, remained committed to providing for his family. His heartfelt prayers will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of his family forever.

Darlene Moss, 65, of Hospers, died Saturday, September 14, 1996, in the Orange City Hospital. Services were held on Tuesday, September 17, 1996 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Hospers with the Rev. Robert VandeVord officiating. Burial was held at the Hospers Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Hospers.
Mrs. Moss was born August 27, 1931 on a farm near Sioux Center, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ben and Jeanette (Van Roekel) Kraayenbrink. She was a graduate of Sioux Center High School.
On February 8, 1950 she married Peter Moss at Sioux Center. They farmed in the Hospers vicinity until they retired in 1991 and moved into Hospers in 1992.
Darlene was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Hospers, in the Reformed Church Women's Ministries, and a spiritual leader in community prayer groups.

Peter Moss, 83, of Orange City, died Tuesday June 8, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars in Le Mars.
Peter James was born Dec. 20, 1926, in rural Rock Valley, the son of Marion and Henrietta (Westra) Moss. He was raised in the Middleburg area.
On Feb. 8, 1950, he married Darlene G. Kraayenbrink in Sioux Center. They farmed at Hospers, where in 1954 and 1955, he was named a Master Swine Producer. In 1992, they retired into Hospers. Mrs. Moss died Sept. 14, 1996, in Orange City.
In 1998, Pete moved to Orange City, where he became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in June 2008. On May 12 of this year, he transferred to the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. In earlier years, he had been a long-time active member of the First Reformed Church in Hospers, where he served on the consistory and was a teacher.
Mr. Moss was also a former Gideon.
He enjoyed fishing, watching baseball, and attending family reunions and his grandchildren's activities.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, the Rev. Albert and Aileen Moss; and a sister and her husband, Charlene and Rodney Vanden Brink.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Stanley Vandersall and the Rev. Dr. Perry De Groot will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hospers Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Thursday), with the family present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials will be directed to Hospice of Siouxland North in Le Mars.

KRAAYENBRINK, DICK AND VIRGIE (OVERLANDER)
Dick Kraayenbrink was born on May 8, 1937 at Sioux Center, la. son of Ben Kraayenbrink and Jeanette (Van Roekel). He attended country schools for the first eight years. He has two brothers, Henry and Alvin and four sisters, Darlene, Bernice, Joyce and Linda. He attended Sioux Center High and played on the 1955 team that went to the State Tournament. After school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and went to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. for basic training. Later, he was at Fort Bliss at El Paso, Texas.
Virginia Mae Overlander, the third daughter of Fred and Ada (Zoeterman) was born on March 26, 1936 at Sioux Center, lowa. Her sisters, are Evelyn (Mrs. Robert Moyer) and Ruth (Mrs. George Steininger). Virgie, as she was called, attended Sioux Center schools from kindergarten through high school. After high school she attended N.W. Jr. College, in Qrange City, Iowa, for two years, taking teacher training. Virgie and Dick met at the Sieperda skating rink, and were married on June 2, 1956, at the army chapel at Fort Bliss. Their first son, Daniel, was born in the army hospital on June 28, 1957.
After being discharged from the army, Dick farmed a couple years with his father, near Sioux Center, Ia. Their second son Steven, was born March 24, 1959 in the Sioux Center Hospital.
In 1960, they moved to Bellflower, Calif., where Dick put up awnings on mobile homes for a couple years.

Moving back to the farm near Inwood, Iowa, took place in 1962. Their third son Michael, was born on his mother's birthday on March 26, 1963, at the Canton-Inwood Hospital. Too many acres, back problems and low prices drove them back to Bunny Calif. Dick worked in the awning business again. Their only daughter Rachel Ann was born on Jan. 23, 1967 at Bellwood Hospital in Bellflower, California.
Virgie and Dick received some inheritance from a bachelor uncle and decided, with the Lord's direction, to buy an acreage near Sioux Center, Iowa, not intending to move back right away. But a job was offered to Dick, so it was back to the midwest.
Our family are sport enthusiasts, so living back in Iowa was a plus. All three boys and Rachel played a lot of sports and set some school records. Steve played basketball at Central College in Pella, Iowa, was most valuable player and a 1000 point club member. Mike had a good career at Northwestern College at Orange City, Iowa.
Dick worked at the Coop Elevator, was with Living Industries, and A and K Structures. Many houses, Dr. Estes and Boeyink dentist office, Oostra, Bierma and Schouten law office and Magic Wheels skating rink were some of his projects.
Their first son Dan, graduated from S.C.H.S. in 1975. His was the first class graduating from the new high school. He started in construction with his dad, later farmed near Inwood, Ia. He is associated with Vant Hall Builders in Pella, Ia. at present. He married Doreen Kleinwolterink, daughter of Harold, on June 30, 1978 at Sioux Center, Ia. They have three children: Lindsey, who was born in Sioux Center on April 9, 1981, Micah, born on April 23, 1985 and Kiley born on April 7, 1989 at Pella, Iowa. A little son, Joshua, was still born on June 23, 1982.
Debra Boone, daughter of Marvin, and Steve ware married on Nov. 18, 1978 in Sioux Center, Iowa. He was a junior at Central College in Pella, lowa. Their first daughter Jessica Mae was born on April 16, 1982. Steve is working at Marion County Bank in Pella. Two more girls were born in Pella; Heather Kaye, on June 29, 1985 and Erin Lynn on November 26, 1988.
Mike graduated from Northwestern College at Orange City, Iowa. He has done various jobs; construction, plumbing and heating. He married Laurie Ackerman, daughter of Gerald, on Sept. 3, 1988, at Valley Springs, S.D. Born two months early, on Feb. 28, 1989, was their tiny 3 1/2 lbs. daughter, Katlyn Adrianna. They live in Grandma (Ada) Overlander's former home in Sioux Center, but plans to move to Pella might materialize.
Rachel is a Senior at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. She transferred from Northwestern at Orange City, after two years. Her last three summers were spent in New York, working for Services Unlimited. She's majoring in finance, so is interviewing at this time.
Dick and Virgie have lived in Sioux Center for the last 22 years. Dick is the production manager at E.M.W. Groschoppe and Virgie bas been a caregiver, for both children and the elderly.

Dick loved their time after retirement with SOWERS (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready). They traveled across the U.S. and helped with mission projects. He built a wagon that he pulled with his 1937 John Deere tractor, and blessed many people with memorable rides.
Dick was a member of Liberty Evangelical Free Church where he served as an elder and helped oversee the building project of the new church facility. He loved to share his faith with love, grace and wisdom. This was so important to him to bring people to know and love our Lord.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Virgie and their family.
He is also survived by his brother Alvin Kraayenbrink and his sisters, Bernice Vander Stouwe, and Joyce Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Jeanette Kraayenbrink, his sisters: Linda Lyons and Darlene Moss, his brother Harry Kraayenbrink, and his grandson Joshua Kraayenbrink.
