Jake Ver Mulm, age 83, died Tuesday, October 29, 2002, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Memorial services were held November 1, 2002, at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley.
Burial was at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley with the Rev. Mike Van Hamersveld as officiant.
Jake was born February 16, 1919, at Rock Valley, son of William and Tillie (Wassenaar) Ver Mulm.
He married Dorothy Van Roekel on February 19, 1941, at Edgerton, MN.
Jake served in the U.S. Army during WWII from July 17, 1942, to December 29, 1945.
Jake and Dorothy lived at Rock Valley where Jake was in partnership with his brother Bill in the automotive repair business.
In 1955, Jake sold his business and moved southwest of Rock Valley where he and Dorothy farmed until retirement in 1978 when they moved to Rock Valley.
Surviving relatives include his wife Dorothy; three sons and their wives: Lee and Hazel of Cedar Falls, IA, Roger and Lynne of Stockton, CA, Dennis and Martha of Urbandale, IA; four grandchildren: Lisa Dreyer, Laura DeBoer, Scott Ver Mulm, and Mollie Ver Mulm; six great-grandchildren.
Jake was preceded in death by five brothers: Case, Bob, Frank, Bill, and Herb; infant brother, Robert; three sisters: Johanna Gerritsen, Nellie Middle, and Jennie Ver Sluys.
Memorials may be directed to the Sioux County Hospice.

Dorothy Ver Mulm, age 92, formerly of Rock Valley, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, Iowa. Funeral service will be Monday, August 23, 2010 at First Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. Mike Van Hamersveld officiating. Visitation will be Sunday with the family present from 2-4 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Dorothy Ver Mulm was born July 24, 1918 in Sanborn, Iowa, the daughter of George and Fannie (Haagsma) Van Roekel. She married Jacob "Jake" Ver Mulm of Rock Valley February 19, 1941 in Edgerton, Minnesota. Together they lived in Rock Valley until March, 1957, then began farming west of Rock Valley. They retired from farming in 1978 and moved back to Rock Valley. Jake passed away October 29, 2002. Dorothy was a member of the First Reformed Church of Rock Valley and the Women’s Ministries of the Reformed Church.
Dorothy is survived by her sons: Lee (Hazel) Ver Mulm, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Roger (Lynne) Ver Mulm, Stockton, California and Dennis (Martha) Ver Mulm, Urbandale, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Lisa (Darrin) Dreyer, Laura (Bob) De Boer, Scott Ver Mulm and Molly Ver Mulm; 6 great-grandchildren: Carson, Camryn and Chloe Dreyer, Andrew, Benjamin and Adam De Boer; 2 sisters: Fran (Earl) Benz of Pahrump, Nevada and Ada Van Roekel of Lancaster, California; 1 brother, Abe (Maxine) Van Roekel of Minden, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jake; sisters: Bertha Van Roekel and Nancy Sinkey; brother, Richard Van Roekel.
Lee VerMulm, 79, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, January 15, 2021, at Unity Point Health
Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
He was born December 18, 1941 in Le Mars, Iowa, to Jake and Dorothy (Van Roekel)
VerMulm.
Lee was raised in Rock Valley, where he graduated from high school.
He received his B.A. from Northwestern College in Orange City and an M.A. from the
University of Iowa.
Lee married Hazel Van Veldhuizen on June 11, 1963 in Hull, Iowa.
After teaching in Alta, he taught writing and critical thinking skills at Cedar Falls High for more than 30 years. Lee received several awards for his teaching, including the national Christa McAuliffe Award. He was also an Adjunct Composition Instructor at UNI in Cedar Falls and Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Lee was a member of Cedar Heights Community Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, and a member of the National Education Association (NEA). He also served on the Board of Directors for North Star Community Services.
Lee had a variety of interests, including reading, traveling, history, music, wood working, fishing, church activities, and especially spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel VerMulm, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Lisa
(Darrin) Dreyer of Roseville, CA/West Des Moines, Iowa and Laura (Bob) De Boer of
Orange City; six grandchildren, Carson (Mollie), Camryn, and Chloe Dreyer, and Andrew
(Laura), Benjamin, and Adam De Boer, and two brothers, Roger (Lynne) VerMulm of
Stockton, California and Dennis (Martha) VerMulm of Urbandale, Iowa.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a private family service. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Heights Community Presbyterian Church or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
