Obituaries of Nick and Nancy

Funeral services for Nick Cuperus, 56, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Sheldon Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. Burton Van Antwerpen will officiate and burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Hull, Iowa, with the Lampe-Goudian Funeral Home in charge. Family services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the church parlors.

Mr. Cuperus died Tuesday morning. He was born June 3, 1907 in Patterson, N.J., and married Nancy Enger sic!¨* Oct. 19, 1931 in Sioux County, Iowa.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Ervin of Luverne, Minn., and Gilford of Sheldon; five daughters, Mrs. Elsie Granstra of Harris, Iowa; Mrs. Darlene Prins of Hartley, Iowa; Mrs. Marlene Franken of Maurice, Iowa; Mrs. Donna Reitsma of Sanborn, Iowa; and Miss Judy Cuperus at home.

He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Jelkse Cuperus, who makes her home at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home at Hull; two brothers, Martin of Boyden and Louis of Hull; and 12 grandchildren.

Nancy Cuperus, age 90, of Hull, Iowa, formerly of Sheldon, passed away Monday, January 10, 2000, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2000, at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon; the Rev. John Vermeer officiated. Graveside services were held at 9:15 a.m. Friday, January 14, in Hope Cemetery, Hull, Iowa. Sheldon Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cuperus was born October 27, 1909, in Alton, Iowa, the daughter of John and Tena (Van Roekel) Van Engen. She lived her youth in Sanborn, Sheldon, Sioux Center, and Archer, Iowa. She attended school in Archer.

She married Nick Cuperus on October 19, 1931, in Sioux County, rural Hull. The couple lived in Perkins, Hull, and Sheldon. Her husband died on May 10, 1966.

She lived at Autumn Park Apartments in Sheldon for 20 years. She moved to Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, in March of 1999.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church of Sheldon.

She enjoyed crocheting, handiwork and baking.

Survivors include two sons, Erwin and his wife, Lois, of Meza, Ariz., and Clifford of Chino, Calif.; five daughters and their husbands: Elsie and Bernard Graanstra of Ocheyedan, Iowa, Darlene and John Prins of Hartley, Iowa, Marlene and Art D. Franken of Sioux Center, Donna and Eugene Reitsma of Bellflower, Calif,, and Judy and Doug Smid of Pella, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother and his wife, Albert and Agnes Van Engen of Sanbom, Iowa; five sisters: Gertrude Baker of Worthington, MN,. Clazina Vander Veen of Sheldon, IA, Johanna Vos of Sibley, Iowa, and Mina and her husband, Comie Van Kley of Sanbom, Iowa, and Tina and Norman Buysman of Sioux Falls.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Gerrit:, Abe, George, John, William, and Gerrit; a sister, Alice; and one grandchild in infancy. Pallbearers were David, and Mike Graanstra, Mark and Arlin Franken, Steve Prins, Bruce Cuperus, and Tom and Randy Smid.
