Obituary of Mrs. Dorothy Van Engen, Sheldon
Mrs. Dorothy Van Engen, 51, passed away suddenly at her home near Sheldon early Monday morning, December 5, 1966.
Mrs. Van Engen was born January 26, 1915 to John Vogel and Grace Van Kekerix near Sheldon.
She was united in marriage to Abe Van Engen on December 8, 1936. They farmed in the Sanborn-Sheldon areas.
Survivors are her husband; four sons and one daughter, Adrian of Hull, Dale of Sibley, Gerald of Sheldon, Leslie at home, and Verna Jean (Mrs, Jake Vander Zwaag) of Hull; and five grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers and three sisters: Kryne and Peter of Sheldon, Alvin of Bigelow, Minn., Adeline (Mrs. Dewey Tolsma) of Artesia, Calif., Pearl (Mrs. John Jansen) of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., and Wilma Vogel of Sheldon.
Preceding in death are her parents and one brother, John Jr.
Services were conducted Thursday, December 8, 1966at 1:30 p.m. in the First Reformed Church at Sheldon with Rev. Albert Van Dyke officiating. Interment was in the Roseland Cemetery at Sanborn. The Sanborn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Abraham "Abe" Van Engen, 69, of rural Sheldon, died Wednesday, February 10 in a Sioux City hospital.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the First Reformed Church at Sheldon. The Revs. Louis Benes and Kenneth Westrate officiated. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery at Sanborn. Family visitation was from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Sanborn Funeral Home.
Mr. Van Engen was born May 26, 1912, near Alton. He lived in the Sanborn and Archer vicinity.
He married Dorothy Vogel Dec. 8, 1936, at Sanborn. They farmed in the Sheldon vicinity. She died in 1966.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church.
Survivors include four sons, Adrian of Hull, Dale of Sibley. Gerald "Joe" and Leslie, both of Sheldon; four brothers, John of Orange City, Gerrit of Sioux Center, George of Sibley and Albert of Sanborn; six sisters, Clazina Vander Veen and Nancy Cuperus, both of Sheldon, Gertrude Baker of Worthington, Minn., Mrs. Norman (Tena) Buysman of Sioux Falls, S.D., Johanna Vos of Sibley and Mrs. Cornie (Mina) Van Kley of Sanborn, and 11 grandchildren.
