Sanborn - Albert Van Engen, 79, Sanborn, died Thursday, Dec. 9 at his home.
Services were Monday, Dec. 13, at the First Reformed Church in Sanborn, with the Rev. Dr. Gary Hegstad officiating. Burial was at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, under the direction of Sanborn Funeral Home.
Albert Van Engen, son of John & Tina (Van Roekel) Van Engen, was born Jan. 21, 1925 in Archer.
He lived his youth in the Archer and Sioux Center areas, graduating from the eighth grade in Sioux Center.
He married Agnes Groendyke on March 15, 1951, at the Presbyterian Church in Sibley.
They lived in Sibley. He worked construction March 1951 - February 1952. They then moved to Sanborn. He was employed with Associated Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI) for 35 years as a can and bulk hauler, retiring on March 1, 1984.
He was a member of First Reformed Church in Sanborn.
Special interests included golfing and playing cards. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially cherished the times with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Van Engen of Sanborn; two daughters, Connie and Laverne Bosma of Sibley, and Barb and Curt Reverts of Hartley; a daughter-in-law, Terri Van Engen of Dawson, MN; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four sisters, Gert Baker of Worthington, MN; Johanna Vos of Sibley; Mina Van Kley of Sanborn, and Tina Buysman of Sioux Falls, SD; and three sisters-in-law, Amy Van Engen of Orange City; Helen Van Engen of Sibley; and Ruth Van Engen of Sioux Center.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Van Engen, on Sept. 29, 2004, six brothers and three sisters.

Agnes (Groendyke) Van Engen, the daughter of Cornelius and Elizabeth (Dykstra) Groendyke, was born February 27, 1922, in Ocheyedan, IA. She lived her youth in the rural Ocheyedan and Bigelow, MN, areas, attending Wilson Township #1 School at Bigelow, MN, and graduated on June 10, 1936.
She was united in marriage to Albert Van Engen on March 15, 1951 at the Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA.
To this union three children were born: Connie, Barb and David. Following their marriage the couple lived in the Sibley and Sheldon areas before moving to Sanborn where Albert was employed at the Sanborn Creamery.
Agnes was a devoted wife and mother throughout her lifetime. She died unexpectedly at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center on December 12, 2009 at the age of 87.
Agnes was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn. She enjoyed playing Rumicube, 80-cent Poker, dominoes, golfing, cross- word puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One thing she thoroughly enjoyed was her annual Christmas shopping trip to Sioux Falls with her daughters Connie and Barb.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Connie Bosma and her husband, Laverne, of Sibley, IA and Barb Reverts and her husband, Curt, of Hartley, IA; a former daughter-in-law: Terri Tucholke of Renville, MN; five grandchildren: Cory Bosma and his wife, Connie, of Sibley, IA, and their children: Cari, Kinsey and Koby, Jason Van Engen and his wife, Casie, of Starbuck, MN, and their son Daven, Amber Postma and her husband, Jason, of Hartley, IA, and their daughter due in February, Jami Sather and her husband, Ken, of Springfield, MN, and their children, Kaitlin and Kameron, and Aaron Reverts of Hartley, IA; one brother, John Groendyke and his wife, Beatrice, of Worthington, MN; two sisters, Margaret Zylstra of Worthington, MN and Lucille Groendyke of Sibley, IA; a sister-in-law, Kate Groendyke of Sanborn, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert on December 9, 2004, a son David on September 29, 2004; two sisters: Minnie Weg and Nellie Vander Wilt; three brothers: Sebastian, Neal, and Edward Groendyke.
