PLUIM, ARTHUR AND NANCY (LANGSTRAAT)

Family History of Arthur and Nancy Pluim. Arthur and Nancy (Langstraat) Pluim and two daughters, Tracy and Lucille, moved to Sioux Center from Sheldon in 1944. Both Art and Nancy ware born and grew up in the Newkirk and Hospers area. The next year a new daughter, Nancy, was born. The family moved several times and finally bought a home on 2nd Street SE. During this time Art hauled cream for the Sioux Center Creamery.

In 1952 Art decided to become a farmer and the family moved north of Sioux Center near the Carmel area. The family attended the Central Reformed Church and all three daughters attended and graduated from the Sioux Center Community Schools.

Tracy married Clifford De Boom and they now live in Lynden, Washington where Cliff is a mechanic and Tracy works as a typist in a surgeon's office. Brenda, the oldest child, with her husband, Brian Bales and two sans, Nicholas and Ryan, live in Seattle. Geri, her husband, Kelly Bauter, and son, Casey live in Sumas, Washington. David, with his three children, Karrissa, Daren and Brandon, also live in Lynden. Nancy, with her husband, Bob Wassenaar, and two children, Tracy and Robert, live in Everson, Washington. Derrick with his wife, Sherrie, make their home in Lynden and the youngest child, Jeremy, still lives at home with his parents.

Lucille lives in Pompano Beach, Florida and bas worked for the Veterans Administration for many years. She has two children, Mary, with her husband, Marty Neaton, and two children, Davette and Keith, live in Buffalo, Minnesota. Chad is in the Air Force and is stationed in Spain.

Nancy married Roger Visser and they live in Sioux Center where Rog manages the Visser Elevator and Nancy is a social worker. They have three children, Jeff and wife Sandy live in Sioux Center. Jacquelynn and her husband, Greg De Jong, live in Sheldon. Mikkel and her husband, Jeff Te Brink and daughter Jaclyn live in Le Mars.

In 1970 Art retired from farming and he and Nancy moved to Sioux Center, buying a home on 1st Avenue SE. Art kept busy in his retirement years working as a janitor for the Community Center and HyVee. He was the caretaker for Memorial Gardens Cemetery until his death in 1978. Soon after Art's death, Nancy moved to The New Homestead and still remains active in church and community activities.

Arthur Pluim

Arthur Pluim, 70, Sioux Center, died last Tuesday at Sioux Center of an apparent heart attack.

Services were held Friday in the Central Reformed Church. The Rev. Wesley Kiel officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery under direction of Vander-Ploeg Funeral Home.

Mr. Pluim was born Feb. 3, 1908, at Hospers.

He married Nancy Langstraat Sept. 8, 1933, in Illinois.

Survivors include the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Tracy) de Boom of Linden, Wash., Mrs. Lucille Brotherton of Franklin, Ky., and Mrs. Roger (Nancy) Visser of Sioux Center; one brother, Alvin Loanjers of Lubuque; one sister, Mrs. William (Laura) Korver of Maurice; three halfbrothers, Harvey Pluim of Orange City. Kenneth Pluim of Sioux Center, and Donald Pluim of Hull; three stepsisters, Mrs. Ed Schaap of Sioux Center, Mrs. John Aloffs of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Clara ter Welle of Sioux City; one stepbrother, William Willemstyn of Orange City; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
