In 1996, Larry married his long-time companion, Aloha Klause in Brainerd, Minnesota. Larry made his home in Hillman where he owned and operated Larry's Recycling. He made his home on Rabbit Lake, rural Crosby for 20 years and recently moved to Ironton. Larry enjoyed classic cars, fast cars, demo derby's, visiting casino's and playing blackjack.
On March 18, 2017 Larry passed away at Lakewood Health in Staples, Minnesota at 61 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Preceding Larry in death were his parents, Wilbur and Julia; niece, Tonya Boyer.
Larry is survived by his siblings: Lyle Schmitz of Wadena; Linda (Dave) Kuismi of Menahga; Cindy (Jerry) Boyer of Staples; Sally (Dean) Kopp of Verndale; Allen (Kristi) VanRoekel of Verndale; Rodney (Tara Booth) VanRoekel of Wilseyville, CA; Dixie (Mike) Allen of Hewitt; 13 nieces & nephews; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Wilbur (Bill) Van Roekel, 53, of Maurice, died May 11 in a Cheyenne, Wyoming, hospital after a lengthy illness. Services were held May 14 at the First Reformed Church of Maurice with The Rev. E.R. Voogd officiating. Burial was in the Sherman Township Cemetery, Maurice, under the direction of Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
Wilbur Van Roekel was born March 17, 1926, in Perkins. The last 20 years he was a road construction worker. He served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda, Cindy and Sally of Minnesota; a son, Larry of Minnesota; his mother, Mrs. William A. (Mary) Van Roekel of Rock Valley; two brothers, Abraham W. of Maurice and Marian of Alton, and two sisters, Mrs. Gerrit (Nancy) Kooima of Rock Valley and Mrs. Harry (Sadie) Hoekstra of Maurice.
