HAROLD VAN DE BERG was born on October 19, 1936 to Henry and Della (Kroon) Van De Berg in Sioux County, Iowa. Harold grew up in rural Sioux Center, Iowa. Harold was baptized on December 6, 1936 and later confirmed at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa. He attended Sioux Center Elementary School - Welcome #8.
On March 22, 1957 Harold was united in marriage to Joan Schoep at her parents’ home in Hull, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple lived on a farm near Sioux Center, Iowa. In 1967, they moved to a farm near Garretson, South Dakota and remained there until their retirement in 2010 when they moved to Luverne, Minnesota.
On Monday, November 9, 2015 Harold died peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne at the age of 79 years and 21 days. Harold was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne, where he served as a Deacon. Harold was a farmer throughout his life and he took great pride in being a steward to the land and his Lord. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards - including his favorite game, rook. He loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events. Harold also loved hosting people. He made sure there was always time to sit, have a cup of coffee and enjoy some fellowship.
Harold will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Joan; seven children, Carol (Bruce) Boelman, Luverne, Vern (Nancy) Van De Berg, Luverne, Norlyn (Sandy) Van De Berg, Garretson, Sharla (Thomas) Trutwin, Cushing, Minnesota, David (Angela) Van De Berg, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Loren (Monica) Van De Berg, Sioux Falls, and Paul (Tammy) Van De Berg, Brandon, South Dakota; siblings, Elma (Lloyd) Van Roekel, Sioux Center, Verna (Arend) Sandbulte, Duluth, Minnesota, Hendrene (John) Zoet, Hull, Iowa, Ralph (Mary) Van De Berg, Sioux Center, Wilmer (Wynetta) Van De Berg, Sioux Center, and Ardith (Verdean) Wynja, Sioux Center; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Paul H. Van De Berg; parents, Henry and Della Van De Berg; sister, Eldora Van Zandbergen; and brother-in-law, Harold Van Zandbergen.
