"............ Wilmina H. Guerink [*must be Geurink] was raised in Orange
City and attended school there. ......She retired in 1986. Mr. Engbers
died Feb. 18, 1996. In May of 1997 she moved to Green Valley, Arizona.
She enjoyed gardening ans was a member of the Calvin Christian Reformed
Church in Le Mars. ........... Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Saturday [*November 29, 1997] at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church
in Le Mars with the Rev. Wick Hubers officiating ............
Pealbearers will be Darrell Bottjen, Terry Korver, Troy Korver,
Marv Korver, Dale Shipley and Steve Ver Mulm".
She married at age of 21 years on June 19, 1934, in Orange City, Sioux Co,
IA, by Rev. Ralph Heynen, to the 25 years old laborer Albert/Al Engbers,
from Orange City, IA, born on February 12, 1909, in Pella, Marion Co, IA,
as son of George Engbers and Grace Vander Linden (the last one was born
on October 1,1884, at rural Monroe, and died on September, 1984, in Orange
City, IA, 99 years old, daughter of Dirk L. Vander Linden and Christina
Vander Wilt). He died on Sunday, February 18, 1996, at Green Valley,
AZ (Arizona), their winter home, 87 years old. [*In the death record
of her brother Everett Geurink Wilmina's spouce was also mentioned as
"Robert Engbers", but his first name must be a typo].
[*Note A.G.: Albert's younger sister Christina Engbers was the spouce
of Gerrit W. Nibbelink (see also 6w), sister Freda Engbers of James
Heynen of Hull, Sioux Co, IA and sister Leona Engbers of Elmer Kooistra
of Grandville,Michigan. Their mother Grace (Van der Linden) Engbers
became almost 100 years and died on September 4, 1984, 99 years old].
The local newspaper "Le Mars Sentinel" wrote about the deceased Albert
Engbers: "..........He was raised in Pella [*until 1928 when his parents
moved to Orange City, Sioux Co, IA] and recieved his education from the
Central Academy. When he was 19 years old, he moved to Orange City, IA,
and worked as a hired man. Mr. Engbers was married to Wilmina Guerink
[*must be Geurink] on June 19, 1934, in Orange City. In 1935 the couple
moved to Le Mars, where he went to work for the Le Mars Hatchery and
Feed. In 1938 he purchased the Le Mars Hatchery and Feed which he
operated until his retirement in 1986. He then sold the business to
Mark Schlesser. He was member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church
where he was a Consistory Member for 21 years; past Le Mars Community
School board member for nine years; past Le Mars City Counsil member
for eight years; long time Le Mars Rotary member; and past president
of the IA Poultry Association. Through his years Mr. Engbers enjoyed
playing golf in Le Mars and Arizona. During his retirement the couple
had a home in Arizona and Le Mars. During the last five years
Mr. Engbers was involved in a prison ministry in Tucson, Arizona.
Mr. Engbers was a member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Quartet
for 27 years......... He was preceded in death by his parents and
a sister, Winifreda Heynen. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday
[*February 22] at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church with the Rev.
Roger Bouwman officiating. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memory
Gardens Cemetery [*in Le Mars?]".
Daughter Verna Mae Engbers, born on November 27, 1943, married to
Darrell Bottjen, In 1996 they lived in Liberal, Kansas, and in 1997
they lived in Olathe, Kansas. [*Darrell was pallbearer at the furneral
of his mother-in-law Wilmina H. (Geurink) Engbers].
