Obituary of James

Paul Wright

TIPTON - Funeral for Paul Wright, 97, Tipton, will be at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Tipton, with the Rev. R. T. Perry officiating.

Mr. Wright passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010, in an Altus nursing home.

Burial will follow in Tipton Cemetery under direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick.

James Paul Wright was born March 21, 1913, in Waverly, Tenn., to James Mack and Sadie Spencer Wright. He attended Tipton Public School and graduated from Tipton High School with the Class of 1931. He was united in marriage with Janella Gertrude Van Oostrum on July 4, 1934, in Frederick. She preceded him in death Dec. 28, 2000. Paul farmed in the Tipton area all his life and had served on the Tillman County ASCS Committee. Paul was an avid bowler. He had been very active in the Tipton community and was a member of First United Methodist Church as well as a former Laing School board member for many years.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Ann Wright, Tipton; four grandchildren and spouses: Karen and Lee Tobey, Norman; Kim and Teri Walker, Tuttle; Tamara and Mike Gonzalez, Newcastle; and Leanna and Brad Lay, Okinawa, Japan; nine great-grandchildren: Renee Tobey Price and her husband, Dared, Barton and Blaire Walker, Hugh, Justin and Ashley Gonzalez, and Monica, Zach and Nicholas Lay; and two great-great-grandchildren: Hayleigh and Eli Gonzalez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Pauletta and Kenneth Walker; a brother, Fred Wright; and a sister, Ora Dean Russell. Memorial contributions may be made to Tipton First United Methodist Church in memory of Paul Wright.
