DELORES "DEE" VANROEKEL

Delores "Dee" VanRoekel, 72, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 9 at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel. Inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dee was born March 18, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Hilda and Kenneth McClintock. The McClintock family later moved to Osceola, IA where Dee and her brother Gene graduated high school. Dee went to Broadlawns Nursing School and then joined the Army where she served from 1957 to 1959. Dee married Floyd VanRoekel and started her family in Guthrie Center, IA. She was a dedicated registered nurse at Guthrie County Hospital until her retirement in 1999. Dee enjoyed spending time working in her yard, spending time with her family, reading good books and watching "good" movies.

Dee is survived by her children, Margaret Johnson (Robert) of Altoona, Gwen VanRoekel (Erik van Tertholen) of Holland, Mike VanRoekel (Robin) of Urbandale and Jolene Davis (Ted) of West Des Moines; five grandchildren, Dan and Anna Johnson and Shane, Will and Ellen VanRoekel; and a brother, Gene McClintock (Martha) of Maryville, MO.

Memorials may be directed to the Guthrie County Hospital.

GUTHRIE CENTER -- Floyd D. Van Roekel, 70, of Guthrie Center, formerly of Monroe, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Beidelman-Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center with the Rev. Lillian Gallo-Seagren officiating. A second memorial service will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Christian Conference Center in rural Newton.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Pheasants Forever.

The son of Harry and Maggie Gezel Van Roekel, he was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Monroe. He grew up in Monroe and graduated from Monroe High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He raised longhorn cattle and worked for Stine Seed Company in Adel. He hosted many hunters at Van's Hunting Paradise on his farm. He was a member of Pheasants Forever, IA Cattlemen's Association and received numerous cattle and conservation awards.

Survivors include his children, Margaret Johnson of Des Moines, Gwen Van Roekel of Utrecht, Holland, Michael Van Roekel and Jolene Davis, both of Des Moines; sisters, Betty Van Wyk of Pella and Veleine Scott of Ottumwa; brothers, Dwight Van Roekel of Newton, Paul Van Roekel, Marvin Van Roekel and Rae Van Roekel, all of Montezuma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers David, Robert and John.
