HULSTEIN, KEMBE J. AND KATHRYN (VER HOEF)
On July 3,1964, Kembe John Hulstein was born to Ken and Eunice (Schutt) Hulstein. He attended school at the Sioux Center Community Schools and following graduation he attended Porterville School of Horseshoeing in California. He then returned home to join his brothers and father in the farm business, and to show horses with his parents on the show circuit. He married Kathryn Sue Ver Hoef, daughter of Arnie and Ardene Ver Hoef of Sioux Center.

Kathy had been born November 7, 1962, in Sioux Center. She attended the Sioux Center Community Schools, and then Augustana College in Sioux Falls. She graduated with a BA with a major in Nursing from Augustana. She worked for 1 year in the post-partum unit of Sioux Valley Hospital until the birth of their daughter Savanna Rose on August 3, 1987. Kathy then continued on a part-time basis working in the post-partum department and teaching some pre-natal classes at Sioux Valley. During this time Kembe and Kathy lived on the farm on which Kembe worked.
In January of 1988 Kembe left the farm to work for this father-in-law at Ver Hoef Chevrolet. A few months later the couple moved to town to live. A second daughter, Sierra Skye was born on August 5, 1989.
