HULSTEIN, KIRK FAMILY
On July 13, 1954, Kirk Evan Hulstein was born to Ken and Eunice (Schutt) Hulstein. He attended Sioux Center Community schools and upon graduating attended lowa State University for a short time. Following this Kirk returned to the farm to farm with his father.

On June 8, 1979, he married Julie Kay Folkerts, the daughter of Cornie and Gert Folkerts. Julie was born on December 29, 1959, and grew up on a farm in the Inwood area. She attended Christiana grade school in Inwood, and, then Western Christian High School in Hull. Following graduating from Western she attended Dordt College where she met Kirk. They were married in the summer following her Sophomore year. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree she taught at Western Christian High School for 2 years, teaching instrumental music. During this time on August 5, 1982, a daughter Amanda Joy was born. Julie was also continuing her education receiving a Masters Degree in Music from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. A son Matthew Jordon was born on September 24, 1985. Julie then taught instrumental music at the Hospers Christian Grade School for 1 years following Matthew's birth. The next two years ware spent teaching vocal music at the Sioux Center Community High School.
Then on August 24, 1988, a second son, Christopher Lee was born. At this time Julie decided to take some time off from teaching. The latest member of Kirk and Julie's family is Nicole Paige, born January 12, 1990. Julie has remained active with her interest in music, playing French horn in various musical groups including the Sioux County, the Sioux Falls, and the Sioux City Symphonies. She also enjoys making many craft items.
Kirk is involved in farming with his father and 2 brothers. Kirk and Julie live in a home 3 miles north and ½ mile west of Sioux Center.
