Obituary of Delbert

Dr. Delbert Van Maanen, 65, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996 at a hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. The Rev. Mark De Witt officiated. Burial was at 1:00 p.m. in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home, Sioux Center.

Delbert was born July 9, 1931 in Sioux Center, the son of John B. and Elizabeth (Rozeboom) Van Maanen. He married Darlene Ulferts on May 29, 1958 in Prinsburg, Minn. He received his bachelor's degree from Westmar College in Le Mars, his master's degree from the University of IA, and his doctorate and specialist degrees from the University of Northern Colorado. Dr. Van Maanen taught at Pella Christian High School, Northwestern College in Orange Cily and Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa until retiring this summer. Dr. Van Maanen was a member of the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Eric Svendsen of Winona, Minn., and Charlene and Jeff Hunziker of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren, Adam and Benjamin Svendsen and Elisabeth Hunziker; and a sister and her husband, JoAnn and Merle Van Roekel of Rock Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
