BOONE, VERNON AND RUTH (HUISMAN)

Vernon was born in Sioux Center on Jan. 20, 1933 to William and Carrie Boone, about the middle child of 14. He attended Sioux Center grade and high school. Upon graduation in 1951 he volunteered for the draft in the Army. He spent 18 months in Korea and was discharged in 1954. He was in the trucking business until 1956 when he began working as a candy salesman for Curtiss Candy Co. Later on he established his own candy business (Vern's Candy Sales) and is presently still so employed. He is a past J.C. President and a Past state J.C. vice president. He served the community of Sioux Center as a volunteer fireman for 25 years. He and his wife are members of Central Reformed Church, where he has been a deacon, Sunday School Supt. and at present serves as Elder there.

Ruth (Huisman) Boone was born on Feb. 24, 1935 in Orange City to Andrew and Rena Huisman, one of 6 children. She attended country school in West Branch Township and attended high school in Orange City. Ruth is presently employed part time at Wal Mart.

Vern and Ruth met during their high school years and were married soon after he came home from the Army, August 5, 1955. They have lived in Sioux Center all of their married life. Their 3 children were all born there. Kim, born June 2, 1956, Gregg, born April 28, 1959 and Eric born December 2, 1960. all three attended Sioux Center Community grade and high school.
Kim attended Northwestern College in Orange City. She met David Anderson while teaching 2nd grade in the Sioux Rapids Rembrandt System. They were married in 1980 and now have two girls, Andrea and Jessica. Kim still teaches in the same school and David is employed with Kruehl and Payer Engineering firm of Storm Lake, Ia.

Gregg was employed for nine years at Area 4 Education Agency in Sioux Center after his high school graduation. He married Shari Van Roekel in 1981. They have three children, Tyler, Haley and Kiley. In 1987 Gregg began working as business manager for Sioux Automation Co. in Sioux Center where he is still employed.

Eric attended Northwestern College in Orange City and graduated with a business degree. He met Nancy Alderink in college and they were married the day after their graduation in 1983. In the fall of that year they moved to Tyler, Texas where he is employed with Aetna Insurance Co. as a claims auditor. Nancy is an elementary teacher in Whitehouse school system (a small town a few miles south of Tyler). They have a son, Aaron, a year old.
