Elsie Tiemeyer, age 88, of Cutlerville, entered her heavenly home on Sunday, March 1, 2015.

Her husband, Pat, preceded her in death just six weeks ago, as well as two brothers, Gerrit and John Van Holland.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren, Gary and Bonnie Tiemeyer (Scott and Rebecca Tiemeyer, Shelly and Todd Tubbs, Jaime and John Fisher, P.J. and Mandy Tiemeyer), Jack and Linda Tiemeyer (Dawn Carpenter, Steve and Amber Tiemeyer, Mark and Jamie Tiemeyer, Jill and Randy Beute), Tom and Karen Tiemeyer (Rachel and Doug VandenBerg, Kelly and Rob Adams, Matt Tiemeyer), Mike and Kim Tiemeyer (Christopher Tiemeyer, Ellen and Mickey Sawyer, Parker and Mary Tiemeyer, Kayla Tiemeyer); 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brother, Gilbert and Arlene VanHolland; sister, Thelma and Sonny VanBemmel, sisters-in-law, Gerry VanHolland, Marion Tiemeyer, Gerry Tiemeyer; several nieces and nephews.

Private family interment at Blain Cemetery will be followed by a memorial service held at 11 am Thursday, March 5, at Cutlerville East Christian Reformed Church, 501 68th St. SE, with Rev. Bill Sytsma officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Elsie may be made to the Pine Rest Patient

Tiemeyer, Peter W. "Pat" Peter W. "Pat" Tiemeyer, age 85, of Cutlerville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 19, 2015. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

GERRIT VAN HOLLAND, 19, DIES OF BRAIN HEMMORRAGE

Gerrit Van Holland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Van Holland died late Thursday evening, October 14.

Early Thursday morning Gerrit complained of a headache which became very severe later on during the day until about midafternoon, it was necessary to rush him to St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City and there he passed away late that evening. He died at the age of 19 years and two months. His sudden passing was a shock to his many relatives and friends.

Gerrit is survived by his parents and two sisters and two brothers: Elsie, Mrs. Peter Tiemeyer of Grand Rapids; John, Gilbert and Thelma Grace, all at home. One grandparent, Mrs. G. Van Holland of Rock Valley.

Obituary: Rock Valley, IA: John T. Van Holland, 77, of Rock Valley, died Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Hegg Memorial Hospital. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Tuesday at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. Gideon Wamala and Rev. John Engbers will be officiating. Visitation will be Monday with the family present 6:30-8 pm Monday at Porter Funeral Home.

John was born on October 26, 1930 at Rock Valley, son of Tom and Grace (Harmsen) Van Holland. John married Geraldene "Geri" Vande Kamp on September 9, 1954 at Ireton, IA. They farmed near Sanborn and Ireton, IA before south of Rock Valley in 1970. John also worked as a mechanic before becoming part-owner of Valley Feed and Seed. He had served in the U.S. Army 7th Inf Division 31st Regiment during the Korean War; served as Deacon at Ireton CRC; Elder and Deacon at Calvin CRC in Rock Valley; and served on the Rock Valley Christian School Board. .

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Geri; son, Ted (Angela) Van Holland of Shawnee, KS and their children, Joshua, Andrew, and Johanna; daughter, Donna (Daryl) Muilenburg of Maurice, IA and their children, Alan (Jill) Muilenburg, Sandy (Peter) Jenkins, Lisa Muilenburg and fiancée Ben Vos, Carrie Muilenburg; son, Gaylon (Cindy) Van Holland of Rock Valley, and their children, Stephanie, Bailey, Matthew, and Nathaniel; 2 great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Ryan Muilenburg; brother, Gilbert (Arlene) Van Holland of Rock Valley; sisters, Elsie (Peter) Tiemeyer of Grand Rapids, MI, and Thelma (Harold) Van Bemmel of Orange City, IA.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Grace; brother, Gerrit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Rock Valley Christian School.

Geraldene Celia Van Holland was born March 2, 1932, near Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of George and Celia (Vanden Berg) Vande Kamp. Prior to her marriage, she helped cook, clean, and care for families with new babies.

Geri married John T. Van Holland on September 9, 1954, in Ireton. Together they farmed near Sanborn, Iowa, Ireton, and later south of Rock Valley, Iowa while they raised their 3 children. Geri did upholstery work for several years out of her home and later made a shop in the old chicken coop.

John and Geri were members of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley where she was involved with the Faith Circle and the Rock Valley Christian School Ora et Labora. John died on May 9, 2008.

Those left to cherish her memory are her 3 children, Ted (Angela) Van Holland of Shawnee, Kansas, Donna (Daryl) Muilenburg of Maurice, Iowa, and Gaylon (Cindy) Van Holland of Rock Valley; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Thelma (Harold) Van Bemmel of Orange City; and many nephews and nieces.

Geri was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; siblings and their spouses, Gerrit and Priscilla Vande Kamp, Hilbert and Loraine Vande Kamp, Geneva and Leonard Vanden Bosch, Marvin Vande Kamp, George Vande Kamp, Celia and Marvin Ten Napel, and Winnifred and Alfred De Jong; and from John's family, brothers-in-law, Gerrit Van Holland and Gilbert Van Holland; and sister-in-law, Elsie (Peter) Tiemeyer.

Gilbert Van Holland
November 21, 1934 - October 16, 2020

Gilbert Van Holland, 85, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Friday, October 16, 2020, at Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley. Memorial service will be held Saturday, October 31, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Henry Lengkeek officiating. Private family burial, with military rites, will be held prior to the service at Valley Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Friday, October 30, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the church. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Memorials may be given to Justice For All in Rock Valley.

Gilbert Van Holland, son of Tom and Grace (Harmsen) Van Holland, was born November 21, 1934, at Rock Valley, Iowa. Growing up he attended Rock Valley Christian Grade School and Western Christian High School. Gilbert proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1956-1958. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Gilbert was united in marriage with Arlene Vonk on December 26, 1958, at Rock Valley. Together the couple were blessed with 5 children: Susan, Kevin, Leslie, Nancy, and Sara. Gilbert spent 42 years working for Kooima Machine (Total Component Solution), retiring in May 2001.

Gilbert was a charter member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon, elder, and Sunday School Teacher. He also served as a Rock Valley Cadets counselor. Some of Gilbert’s joys were playing 22 years of fastpitch softball, golfing, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and volunteering at Justice For All.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlene; 5 children, Susan (Roger) Wubben of Clara City, Minnesota, Kevin (Brenda) Van Holland of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Leslie (Tina) Van Holland of LeMars, Iowa, Nancy (Kelvin) Den Boer of Underwood, Minnesota, and Sara (Jacey) Stapleton of Sioux Falls; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Thelma (Harold) Van Bemmel of Orange City, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Gerri Van Holland of Rock Valley.

Preceding Gilbert in death were his parents, Tom and Grace; and 3 siblings, Elsie Tiemeyer, John T. Van Holland, and Gerrit Van Holland.

Arlene Marie (Vonk) Van Holland, daughter of Marinius and Bertha (Bos) Vonk, was born on February 23, 1937, near Inwood, Iowa. She attended country school through the 8th grade.

Arlene was united in marriage to Gilbert Van Holland on December 26, 1958, at Rock Valley, Iowa. Together the couple was blessed with 5 children: Susan, Kevin, Les, Nancy, and Sara. Arlene spent her life raising her children and working as a seamstress.

Arlene loved her Lord and had a heart for serving Him. Arlene was a charter member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church. She served on the decorating committee and set up the library. She also worked as a volunteer for Meals On Wheels and Rock Valley Christian School. Arlene loved to read, fix puzzles, play board games, and camping. She especially loved to spoil her family with health bread and cinnamon rolls.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; parents, Marinus and Bertha Vonk (Bliek); and 2 sisters, Janet Gaalswyk and Johanna Ver Mulm.

Obituary of Thelma Grace
Thelma Van Bemmel, age 83, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, Iowa. Thelma Grace was born on April 28, 1940, in Rock Valley, the daughter of Tom and Grace (Harmson) Van Holland. She was raised on a farm south of Rock Valley and attended the Rock Valley Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull.

On June 7, 1961, she was united in marriage to Harold "Sonny" Van Bemmel in Rock Valley. They made their home in Sibley for a year before settling in Orange City. Thelma worked as a CNA at the Sioux Center Hospital, the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City, and for more than thirty years at the Sioux County Home, which became a part of Hope Haven.

Mrs. Van Bemmel was a very active member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church and volunteered at the Orange City Christian School. She enjoyed going camping, doing embroidery and word puzzles, reading, and going on motorcycle trips with her friends. She and Sonny loved spending their retirement together, wintering near Apache Junction, Arizona. In 2015, she became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Survivors include her husband of more than 62 years, Harold, of Orange City; three children and their spouses, Karen and Mike Bosma, of Harris; Lora and Todd Puttmann, of Sioux Center; and Jeff and Wanda Van Bemmel, of Orange City; nine grandchildren, Matthew Bosma, and his wife, Kristina; Jacob Bosma, and his wife, April; Lucas Bosma; Samuel Bosma, and his girlfriend, Candie Cueva; Kellie, and her husband, Jordan Menning; Jessica, and her husband, Travis Feekes; Rebecca, and her husband, Jason Goslinga; Ethan Van Bemmel; and Alex Van Bemmel; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Jennie Pluim, of Hull.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Kevin Ten Napel (Lora); a sister and her husband, Elsie and Pat Tiemeyer; three brothers, Garret Van Holland; John Van Holland, and his wife, Geri; and Gilbert Van Holland, and his wife, Arlene; and a brother-in-law, Don Pluim.

Harold "Sonny" Van Bemmel, age 87, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City. Harold Francis Van Bemmel was born on October 15, 1937, in Orange City, the son of John and Gertrude (De Jong) Van Bemmel. He grew up in Orange City and attended the Orange City Christian School before graduating from the Western Christian High School in Hull.

On June 7, 1961, he was united in marriage to Thelma Grace Van Holland in Rock Valley. They made their home in Orange City, where they raised their family and "Sonny" worked hard to provide for his family.

Mr. Van Bemmel was a former member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where he served as a deacon, and more recently was a member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church, also in Orange City, where he served as an elder. Sonny enjoyed spending time at the races in Rock Rapids and going on motorcycle trips with friends. He also liked to spend time at the Senior Citizen Center in Orange City, where he was the treasurer, played pool, and visited with others from the community. After retiring, he and Thelma looked forward to spending their winters together in Apache Junction, Arizona. Thelma passed away on April 9, 2024, in Orange City, after more than 62 years of marriage.

Survivors include three children and their spouses, Karen and Mike Bosma, of Harris; Lora and Todd Puttmann, of Sioux Center; and Jeff and Wanda Van Bemmel, of Orange City; nine grandchildren, Matthew Bosma, and his wife, Kristina; Jacob Bosma, and his wife, April; Lucas Bosma; Samuel Bosma, and his girlfriend, Candie Cueva; Kellie, and her husband, Jordan Menning; Jessica, and her husband, Travis Feekes; Rebecca, and her husband, Jason Goslinga; Ethan Van Bemmel; and Alex Van Bemmel; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jennie Pluim, of Hull.
