She met and married Rex A. Mendenhall on May 10, 1944. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Utah Temple. Harriett worked alongside her husband in their grocery stores in Payson and Santaquin. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and faithfully fulfilled many ward and stake callings including a family history mission in the Chicago, Illinois area.
She enjoyed her associations with many friends in the Gladstan Women's Golf Association, the PTA and was a member of the Jr. Cultus Club for over 50 years. She enjoyed singing in both ward and civic choirs and loved to dance whenever she got the chance. She loved sewing, camping, gardening and genealogy.
She is survived by six children, Jane (Marv) Tuckett, Dan Mendenhall, Scott (Kris) Mendenhall, Robert "Tuna" (Kay) Mendenhall, Lori Toutai, and Melanie Mendenhall; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister Nivale Sopher and a brother Joe TerLouw.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister Joeva Lehfeld. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 17th at 11:00 am in the Old Santaquin Stake Center, 90 South 200 East. Friends may call at the Holladay-Brown Funeral Home, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin Wednesday 6 to 8 pm and Thursday at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 am. Burial, Payson City Cemetery.

Nivale Sopher, 89, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, died Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the MHP Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born December 22, 1926, in Alpha, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph William and Hattie Heitink Ter Louw. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1944. Following graduation Nivale went to work for her father at the family dairy.
On June 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to Karl F. Sopher in Oskaloosa; Karl died October 4, 1974. Following their marriage, Nivale worked at Woolworth for a time, then Mahaska Book Store for 14 years. She last worked for Wiggs Country Store, retiring from there after 14 years.
She enjoyed needlework, sewing, and reading. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She delighted in spending time with her family.
Her family includes her three sons, John (Anne) Sopher of Coralville, Michael Sopher of Helena, Missouri, and Jeffrey (Carol) Sopher of New Market, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Sarah Anne McDougall, Carrie Jane Sopher, Johanna Lynn Puyear, Amanda Kay Coachman, Laura Anne Eilers, Jennifer Marie Sopher, Katherine Jo Sopher, and Nathan Jeffrey Sopher; 9 great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph (Ruth) Ter Louw of Buckley, Washington; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Harriet Mendenhall and Joeva Lehfeld.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 6, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery, east of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m.
