Matilda Bos Rens was called home to be with her Lord on December 17, 2010, at the age of 97 in Los Alamitos, California. She was born in Hull, Iowa, on October 12, 1913, the second child born to Mary and R. E. Bos. Clarence (Tine) was her older brother and Marian and Pearl her younger sisters. On February 12, 1922, their mother suddenly passed away after an illness of only five days. Clarence, Matilda, Marian, and Pearl were separated and sent to live with relatives.

Matilda graduated from Western Academy in Hull in 1932. In 1934 she married Raymond Rens and for almost twenty years they made their home on a farm outside of Hull. Ray and Matilda had three children, Gertrude Mae (Tootie), Marilyn, and Richard. Living in homes in Lakewood and at Bethel Manor in Bellflower, California, Matilda and her sisters never lived more than a few blocks or doors from each other the rest of their lives. In September of 2007, Matilda moved to the Artesia Christian Home in California.

Matilda is survived by two children: Marilyn and Richard; a son-in-law, Don; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, a daughter Gertrude Mae Smit, a grandson Mark Smit, son-in-law, Garry De Leeuw, brother, Clarence Bos, and sisters, Marion Kruse and Pearl Riebeling.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Bethany Christian Reformed Church in Bellflower.
