Obituaries of Arthur and Virginia

ARHUR VAN WYHE

Arthur Van Wyhe, 59, long-time Sioux Center businessman, died Friday in the Sioux Center hospital after being stricken with a heart attack. Services were held Monday in the First Christian Reformed Church at Sioux Center, the Rev. Peter Y. De Jong officiated and burial was in Hope Cemetery at Hull under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. Doornink Brunsting Post of the American Legion conducted the graveside rites.

Mr. Van Wyhe operated a gift shop, GiftsGalore, since 1973. Before that, he operated the Merit Motor Co. from 1960 to 1972 and operated a service station from 1948 until 1960. He was born Oct. 2, 1916, near Hull.

He married Virginia Smith of French Creek, W. Va. July 29, 1944, at Camp Van Dorn, Miss. He was in the Army from February, 1941, to August, 1945, with service in the Aleutians and Germany. After the war, they lived in Kansas City, Mo.; coming to Sioux Center in 1948. He was a member of Doornink-Brunsting Post American Legion, at Sioux Center.

Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Tim (Evelyn) Nikkel of Maurice; three sons, Glenn and William, both of Iowa City, and Robert, at home; three grandchildren; three brothers, Jacob of Bradenton, Fla,; William of Hull and Lee of Kansas City, and three sisters, Mrs. Bert (Jenny) Franken of Boyden, Mrs, Nick (Christine) Van Marel and Mrs. Gerrit Van Otterloo of Sheldon.

Virgina Van Wyhe

Virginia Irene Van Wyhe, 75, of Pella died Saturday at Pella Regional Nursing Home. Memorial services were Tuesday, September 5, at Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center. Burial was Hope Cemetery, Hull.

Mrs. Van Wyhe was born July 10, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, and had lived there and in French Creek, West Virginia; Sioux Center; Gig Harbor, Washington; and Pella. She graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. She had worked as a reporter for various newspapers most of her life, especially Christian publications including "Renewal" and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

When she and her husband owned Merit Motor Company in Sioux Center, she was the accountant and when they owned Gifts Galore, she was the owner/manager. In Gig Harbor, she worked as a graphologist and was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Kiwanis. She and her son, Bob, moved to Pella in 1994, both with poor health. She leaves a legacy of strong Christian values and a life lived fully.

Survivors include two sons and their families. Glenn and Melony Van Wyhe, Gabriel, Joshua and Michael from Tacoma, Washington, and William Van Wyhe of Everett, Washington, Leanne and Samson Thomas from Iowa City and Sarah and Brian Kirk from Sheboygan, Wisconsin; a daughter and her family, Evelyn and Tim Nikkel, Nathan and Nicole, Micah and Kelly of Pella, Ben and Miranda of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and two sisters, Evelyn Stark of Leesburg, Florida, and Annie of Gig Harbor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; son, Robert; sister, Alice; and granddaughter, Laura Van Wyhe.

Memorial contributions may be made to Samson Thomas, her greatgrandson, and may be sent to Garden Chapel Funeral Home at Pella or Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center.

Obituary of Robert Carl

Sioux Center News; May 31, 2000

Robert "Bob" Carl Van Wyhe, 42, of Pella, died of heart failure Friday, May 12, 2000 at home. Memorial services were May 16 at Garden Chapel, Pella. Cremation followed the service. Burial was in Hope Cemetery, Hull.

Van Wyhe was born the son of Arthur Van Wyhe on July 15, 1957 in Sioux Center. He had lived in Sioux Center, Iowa; Omaha, Nebraska; Gig Harbor, Washington and Pella most of his life. He attended Western Christian High School and had worked as a proofreader until his congestive heart failure in 1994. Since then, he had been taking care of his mother.

Survivors include his mother, Virginia Van Wyhe; two brothers, Glenn and William; and a sister, Evelyn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur.
