Obituaries of Delbert and Margaret

Margaret Kuiken, 78, died suddenly at her home on Tuesday, August 11, 2009. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Rev. John Engbers will officiate. Visitation will begin at noon Friday with family present from 6:30-8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Margaret Aldine Van Maanen was born May 3, 1931 to Arie and Jennie (De Vries) Van Maanen in Rock Valley, IA. She graduated from Western Christian High School. Margaret was united in marriage to Delbert Kuiken on April 12, 1950 in Rock Valley. Together they lived in northwest Iowa until moving to the Chicago, IL area for 30 years. They retired back to Rock Valley in November of 1995. Margaret was a homemaker that took care of her family's needs. Del died October 27, 2008.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church where she was very active. Margaret enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking, hiking, camping and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Margaret is survived by 2 sons: Duane (Wendy) Kuiken of Pueblo, CO and Mark (Samantha) Kuiken of Dunnville, KY; 1 daughter, Fonda (Bill) Prince of Nashville, TN; daughter-in-law, Peggy Kuiken; 9 grandchildren; 9 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Rick) Clayton, Christina (Doug) Fjelland, William Prince IV, Jessica, Neil, Molly, Joshua, Gabriel, and Shaina Kuiken; 2 brothers: Gerrit (Joan) Van Maanen of Rock Valley, IA and John (Marvis) Van Maanen of Lakewood, CA; 2 sisters: Henrietta (Herm) Kempema and Arta Kempema all of Rock Valley, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Del Kuiken; son, Dennis Kuiken; sisters: Wilmina Winterswyk and Harriet Bakker.

Delbert Kuiken, 82 of Rock Valley, died Monday, October 27, 2008. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Thursday at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. Gene Vis will be officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday with the family present 6:30-8 pm Wednesday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Delbert Paul Kuiken was born November 1, 1925 at Otley, Iowa, son of Cornelius and Delia (Van Zee) Kuiken and grew up in the Pella, Iowa area. He served in the U.S. Army in the US and Japan during WW II.

Delbert married Margaret Van Maanen on April 12, 1950 at Rock Valley. They lived in NW Iowa area before moving to Chicago, IL where Delbert was an insurance adjuster for Preferred Risk Insurance Company for 30 years and then retired back to Rock Valley on November 1, 1995. Delbert enjoyed restoring automobiles, remodeling their home, and traveling and hiking in different parts of the US and foreign countries. He was a Cadet leader for 25 years and had served in various church positions.

Delbert is survived by his wife, Margaret of Rock Valley; sons, Duane (Wendy) Kuiken of Pueblo, CO, Mark (Samantha) Kuiken of Dunnville, KY; daughter Fonda (Bill) Prince of Nashville, TN; daughter-in-law, Peggy Kuiken of Elizabeth, CO; sister, Joyce (Martin) Sietstra of Pella, IA; 9 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Rick) Clayton, Christina (Doug) Fjelland, William Prince IV, Jessica, Neil, Molly, Joshua, Gabriel, and Shaina Kuiken.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Kuiken; brothers, Gerrit and Jake Kuiken; sisters, Anna Mae Meinders, Alice Schippers, and Rose Monster.
