Annetta Joan Buyert was born October 31, 1940, on the family farm near Carmel, IA, to John and Henrietta (Vande Weerd) De Vries. She was raised on the farm and graduated from Rock Valley, IA, public high school. On February 27, 1959, she was united in marriage to Arthur Buyert. The couple began their lives together on their farm near Carmel, IA and stayed there raising their children and farming until Arthur’s death in 1989. Joan was an active participant in the farming operation. She could very often be found working right alongside her husband. Even after Arthur passed away, Joan was very active and loved to work.

She eventually moved to Hull in 1995. Joan enjoyed her flowers which led her to taking a job at Natural Beauty Greenhouse where she stayed for over 20 years. Joan was certainly not one to be idle and keeping a clean house kept her busy in her advanced years. She was a Christian woman who loved her Lord. Joan and Arthur were charter members of the Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull. Her children and grandchildren were beneficiaries of her faith and fervent prayers over the years as they grew. She loved to go to their school events and cheer them on or listen to their performances. They will hold many fond memories of Grandma.

Joan is survived by her children, Dan (Laurie) Buyert of Hull, IA, Darla Buyert and Jeff Sparks of Sioux City, IA, and Mike (Pat) Buyert of Sioux Center, IA; grandchildren, Daniel (Brianne) Buyert, Jenna (Chad) Vanden Bosch, Kate (Justin) Boersma, David Buyert, Nathan (Mandy) Van Wyk, Heath (Kate) Van Wyk, Melissa (Joey) Scheer, Sarah Bruinsma and Jamie Ryan Jr., Mandi (Niklas) Arndt, Tim Cornish, Stephanie (Paul) Schelling, Kimberly Buyert, and Jennifer Buyert; 29 great grandchildren; step-sister, Sharon (Darold) Ball of Sioux Falls; in-laws, Gert Inveld of Rock Rapids, John (Peg) Buyert of Minnetonka, MN; half-sister, Nancy (Dan) Horner of Harrisburg, SD; special aunt, Rose Van Kley of Grandville, MI; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Henrietta De Vries; her loving husband of nearly 30 years, Arthur; grandson, Ryan Dean Buyert; and brother, John De Vries.
