HULSTEIN, KEVIN AND DEBRA (DIBBET)
Kevin Hulstein, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit R. Hulstein of Sioux Center married Debra Dibbet, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dibbet of rural Maurice on June 18, 1974 in Sioux Center, IA. Kevin and his family lived 3 miles north and ¾ miles east of Sioux Center since he was born on November 26, 1953. Kevin's grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hulstein and Mr. and Mrs. Art E. Franken. At the time that he was born, the Sioux Center Hospital set a record with the number of babies being born at the hospital. There were 5 babies in the nursery (and out in the hall) at that time - there must have been a snow storm that previous February. He attended the Sioux Center Public School and after graduation attended Northwestern College in Orange City and graduated from there in 1976.
Deb was born on February 7, 1955 at the Sioux Center Hospital. She and her family lived on a farm near Carmel for one year and then moved to rural Maurice - right on highway 75 just outside of Maurice where they lived there until May of 1974 when the family moved to Sioux Center after her father, John Dibbet, was diagnosed with cancer. Her brother, Stan Dibbet, then moved to the farm by Maurice. Deb's grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jake Dibbet and Mr. and Mrs. Bart Van Donge. Deb attended M-OC primary school in Maurice for kindergarten through third grade, then went to the Sioux Center Christian School for 4th through 8th grade and attended Unity Christian High School in Orange City, graduating in 1973. After graduation she began working at the American State Bank in Sioux Center. They were married in 1974 and lived in a trailer in Sioux Center for three years during which time Kevin attended college for two more years and Deb continued working at the American State Bank. After graduation from college Kevin began working at the Farmers Coop Society in Sioux Center. A half year later he became mill foreman at the Coop Confinement and then in 1987 he became feed mill foreman and grain manager at the Coop Elevator in town.
In 1977 they moved to an acreage 2 miles south and 21,4 west of Sioux Center which is where they presently live. In 1979 they began a family with a son born to them on September 3, 1979 named Kris Edward. Two years later another son was born on July 8, 1981 named Rick Evan. On December 22, 1982 Rick passed away suddenly at the McKennon Hospital in Sioux Falls after a very short illness of spinal meningitis. Then on October 18, 1983 another son was born by the name of Jason Lee and one daughter, Melissa Jean was born on June 19, 1987.
Kevin is currently working at the Farmers Coop Society in Sioux Center and Deb is employed by the Area Education Agency in Sioux Center and also works part time at the KVDB Radio Station in Sioux Center. Their family are members of the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center where both Kevin and Deb are members of the choir and also Young People's leaders. Kris and Jason attend the Sioux Center Christian School where for the 89-90 school year Kris is in the fourth grade and Jason is in kindergarten. Melissa is Currently 2 1/2 years old. During their spare time, as much time as possible is spent camping, which is the family's favorite hobby.
