Obituary
Russell Lee Korver passed away in peace at home on Monday, December 14th, 2020.
He was born in Orange City, Iowa to parents William and Anna Birdella (DeCook)
Korver and had eight brothers and sisters.
He has many stories that he enjoyed reminiscing about with friends and family and his hospice care takers, or anyone that would listen.
He attended NW College in Orange City and Hope Collage in Holland Michigan where he obtained his masters’ in Mathematics.
He is a Veteran of the Korean war and attended Legion Meetings at the Urbandale Legion Post 636.
He married Shirley Ann Mackie in 1955. They each taught school in Mapleton Iowa until they moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where he began working for Bankers Life (Principal Financial) as a computer analyst and retired in 1992 after 35 years of employment.
He and his wife later built a home in Urbandale, Iowa on 67th Street where they raised their children Brent James and Jill Marie for 25 years. They then moved to their new home on 95th St in Urbandale, Iowa. They attended Meredith Drive Reformed Church.
Once retired, they began to travel throughout the US to enjoy warmer weather, then settled on Arizona where they enjoyed many winters and met many wonderful new friends.
They enjoyed bowling and playing bridge and golfing at the Urbandale Golf and Country Club. Russ is proceeded in death by his wife Shirley, his parents, sister Charlene and her husband Jim Grove, his twin sister Rosa and her husband Milton Mackie, brother Ronald and his wife Ruby and brother Clayton and his wife Anita, and his niece Thea Korver.
Russ will be missed by many friend and family, including his children Jill and Brent (Debbie), and his lovely grandchildren Eliot and AJ Korver. He loved them with all his heart and enjoyed watching them grow to be accomplished young adults.
We wish to thank Kindred Hospice and the incredible people that helped in his care the last few months. They were kind and they genuinely enjoyed having Russ in their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Urbandale Food Pantry.
Services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday December 18th at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home at 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale, Iowa 50322.
