Marlin LeRoy Johnson, 45, of Doon died Monday at Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church in Doon. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.
Bernard F. Johnson, 60, of Harrisburg, South Dakota, died unexpectedly Friday, May 18, 2012 during a fishing trip. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Rock Valley, Iowa with Rev. Herman Hofman officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.
The son of Paul and Bernice (Timmer) Johnson, Bernard Franklin Johnson was born on July 2, 1951 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Bernard proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
On July 22, 1971 Bernard was united in marriage with Jennie Fluit near Alvord, Iowa. Bernard worked construction and later owned and operated BJ Construction for over 30 years. Bernard learned masonry from his father which was a vital part of his construction company and a skill he passed down to his sons whom he worked with. Bernard enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, working on classic cars, but most of all enjoyed time spent with family. He served for twenty five years as a Volunteer Firefighter for the Harrisburg Fire Department and was a member of the American Legion and Netherlands Reformed Congregation.
Bernard is survived by his wife Jennie Johnson of Harrisburg, South Dakota; three sons, Paul (Kamie) Johnson of Harrisburg; Tom (Larissa) Johnson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Tyler Johnson (fiancé Krista Bakewell) of Harrisburg; two daughters, Jeanne (Gary) Magnuson of New Effington, South Dakota; and Lindsey Johnson (special friend Aaron Rolstad) of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Jenna, and Alyssa Magnuson, Katelin, Maxwell, Regan, Cole, and Dylan Johnson; three brothers, Mike (Linda) Johnson, Larry (Cindy) Johnson, and Lonnie (Janice) Johnson and one sister, Paula (Harlan) Van Hill.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Lisa Johnson, and brother, Marlin Johnson.
